Default Clutch pedal fluid, Brake or Power Steering?

Newbie question / confusion.

The owners manual mentions that the brake fluid reservoir is also used as for the hydraulic clutch. On the interweb I am also finding references to the power steering fluid as also being used for the hydraulic clutch on 993 turbo models.

I also understand (I think) in addition to the primary transmission / engine clutch on a 993 TT, there are "clutches" use by the AWD system.

So on a 96 993 TT which fluid is used to assist the clutch pedal?

Cheers,
Kevin

Hi

on the 993tt, the brake fluid is separate from hydraulic clutch/steering fluids. (different from 993).
don't think there are any 'clutches' on the AWD system - just a viscous coupler.

Pentosin is used for the clutch - there is a main reservoir in the engine bay and a smaller one in the front trunk.

The manual also mentions:

canysmc, thanks for the extra details from the manual, I didn't catch the "Carrera" caveat when looking in the manual and didn't think to look in the "Capacity" section of the manual, d'oh.

I did Google "Pentosin" which led me to the conflict / confusion with the brake fluid thinking.

I am now of the thinking, "slave cylinder" given "Mark in AK"'s great diagnostic photos in another thread

I think in my truck I may have two issues. Maybe during the 30K brake fluid replacement, it was overfilled and not cleaned up completely, which caused me to leap in that direction (along with NA 993 threads on clutch hang / stick issues), but now the most likely suspect is the slave cylinder.

Cheers,
Kevin
