Default Just started looking for a 993 TT

Hey guys,

I just started looking for a polar silver on black 993 TT. I've come across 3 so far but haven't found the one yet. I'm looking forward to browsing this forum as there seems to be a lot of knowledgeable guys here. I've been on f chat and 6 speed for a while but it seems rennlist is the place to be for the 993 TT.

This is the center of the universe for the 993 turbo! You will find that virtually every car you find out there is known to someone on this list. They can provide invaluable background before you commit resources.
Specify exactly what you are looking for in addition to color and someone may already know about a car that would fit your needs.
Good luck!

Great time to buy a 993TT. Lots on the market right now (>100) and the market is soft, and getting softer.

yes the RL is the center of the universe and the FAQ is the Bible. Search, read and learn and you will find it.

Back in 03 when I started buying sports cars, I was briefly looking at the 993 TT before I got into a 996 carrera and a TT plus some other cars. Now I wish I would have skipped the 996s which I never really cared for much, and gone straight to the 993 TT. I think I still would have had it today, and saved a bunch of money. I've also been eyeing the 997TT but it just never grew on me. Imo the 993 TT is the king of the 911s and the pinnacle of porsche exterior design.

I've already used the search function as I have learned from other forums that nobody likes a lazy newbie. I'll also try to not invoke the wrath of the repost police.=))

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...eadExists=true

Found this ad on cars.com and I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with this car?
I'm not too fond of the RUF wheels unless they come with the whole exterior package. But I understand that the 993 turbo twist hollows run about 800-1200, which isn't too bad.

I've also read that the leakdown, compression test are crucial in a ppi. What are acceptable values? It seems about 5-8 % across the board and around 200 is where it's at?

My former 996 TT had the infamous pop out of 2nd gear which became quite costly. Many of my buddies experienced rms leak as well in their 996 carreras. I've heard conflicting stories whether these are ailments prone to the 993 TT or not. Can someone in the know verify what the truth is?

TIA

charliebronson, I know just a little about the silver 993TT at Porsche of Colorado Springs. The sales guy there, Bryon Dumas, can help you out.

I do know that they have had that car a few months, and recently discounted it by $20,000. Like I said the market is soft.

Default polar on grey 993 TT

Here are some pics of the car in link above. The car is sitting at Porsche of Colorado Springs if it hasn't been sold yet. (I shot an e mail over to the dealer and haven't heard back). The car is a little too low for my taste but overall seems to be in good condition. The colour is listed as marble grey which in the photos look black. I've never seen this interior before but really prefer black. How close to black is this grey? The car also appears to have the 996 face lift stearing wheel. Am I correct thinking that this origianlly wasn't available for the 993TT?

P.S I would really like to find a polar on black that has everything as it came from the factory except an S front chin spoiler.

Opps sorry guys, having problems resizing images.

Marble grey is a very-very light color. This pictures looks black to me. I don't see any marble grey leather.

if you don't like the Ruf wheels, don't let that hold you back - they'll be easy to sell for more than a nice set of stockers will cost you

993tt came with 4spoke steering wheel. common upgrade is the 3 spoke 996 one.
I have not heard of 993s popping out of second gear.
I believe the air cooled cars do not experience the RMS leaks our water cooled relatives are plagued by.

take your time and wait for the right car, it is out there. the search is half the fun. be sure to check out car in person and have ppi done by independant shop. good luck!

That would be the price for 996 hollows. 993 hollows are virtually impossible to find used and straight, as they bend pretty easily. New they are over $5K, so I gave up and used the 996tt wheels. [QUOTE=charliebronson;5686773

But I understand that the 993 turbo twist hollows run about 800-1200, which isn't too bad.

I still have a beautiful set of 993 hollows with tires for sale......
I might swap you for those RUFs if they are the right size.

I'm also looking. Found an Arena Red one with low k's. Just trying to grind the price now. Market is soft everywhere it seems.
The fun is in the hunt, so no rush for me this time.
Would prefer Silver but down here we can't be too choosy.
Good luck

charlie/ pete

so you're saying you want a totally stock 993TT? the main downside of that are most knowing owners will already have replaced the TT suspension with a Pss9 or similar for more versatility- provides better comfort and performance! most of us have upgraded the turbos, the exhausts, wheels, suspensions, seats, stereos, etc so that out to thin out your choices.

Also, the 993s do not experience RMS leaks but instead have CEL issues from time to time. Check maintenance history to make sure it's either had the proper engine work done already or has been driven properly to keep everything sealed and sturdy. Garage queens that all of a sudden are turned into daily drivers can be hard on gaskets and other small things that turn into big things. so if you're getting a really low mileage car, you better keep it low mileage. if you're getting a car that's been driven and maintained- you'll be nothing but happy with your experience on all ends.

good luck.
