Default value of a 1996 993TT

Hey guys,

Sorry to bother you all but how much do you think a silver TT would cost
that has most or all service records and has 10k miles.

What do you guys think a good range would be when pricing something like this?

I'm thinking 75-80k...does that sound right?

Thanks again,
Jim

IMO at least that much depending on condition.

What color interior? Stock or with mods?

With 10k, mint condition and stock, if you could get it for $80k you would be doing very well. Anything with less than 10k or 15k miles usually commands a premium. 97's with that mileage in either black or silver sell for the low-mid $90's at places like RPM, Premier and the like. If I were that seller, I probably wouldn't accept much less than $85k for an 96 with 10K miles.

Good luck! Let us know how you make out if you make an offer.

I've been looking a lot at the low mileage 993TT market because I had my eye on one.

The price you describe-- $75 to $80-- certainly seems reasonable for a car with that mileage.

10K miles is tricky territory. It is not an ultra low museum piece that someone will buy to keep in a collection and never drive, yet if someone buys it for a premium price (on account of the low mileage) and drives it it will depreciate quite a bit (especially once the odometer turns 15 or 20K).

Also, there are many out there that feel 10K miles over 10+ years presages a host of problems due to inadequate use. I suppose I don't really subscribe to this thinking if the car checks out otherwise.

As I mentioned, I have been looking at a 10K car and thinking through these same issues trying to get a handle on value. (The asking price is currently stratospheric).

However, this has been complicated by the fact that the car I am considering (which is otherwise super nice) had an "engine event" (described to me as a missed shift) which necessistated an engine rebuild. Not sure how that factors into market value for this particular car, but my sense is that the vast majority of buyers who might otherwise be willing to pay a premium price for a low mileage car could be scared off by this.

I would be interested to hear opinions on how an engine event resulting in a rebuild might affect value.

if someone wants a museum piece to collect they want "no stories". so they usually shy away from any story whatsoever and now that changes the type of buyers that this car would appeal to...in effect lowering the price.

It really depends on the condition and I agree with the depreciation once you hit 15k miles.

I have a 96 993TT (black/grey) with about 13k miles on it now and I think my car is worth $75k-$80k (ish). My car is complete stock, no mods except for HRE wheels but I also have the OEM wheels.

I bought the car with 10.5k miles and think there is nothing wrong with a car with low miles, as long as there are regular service/maintenance. I take my car to the PowerTech every year regardless of mileage driven. I have them go over the car top to bottom to make sure everything is ok.

Again I think it all comes down to the car, previous owner and service/maintenance performed.

Are you thinking about buying the Polar Silver at RPM?

While some of RPM's cars do sit for some time, the best stuff does seem to move out of there pretty quickly.

If I had to guess, I'd say there are probably not many buyers looking for a TT with a blue interior at that price point, so perhaps there is some room to negotiate on that one.

Do you think a blue interior in a 993 TT loses it value because of its color? Would most people think black is more preferable?

I think interiors are personal preference. Black or grey (light or dark) or tan (depending on exterior color) are the typical and what you see most. I personally would not buy any car with a blue interior, but have owned many cars with blue exterior. I have had 2 midnight blue (928 GT, 993 TT), one iris blue (993 C4 Aero) and one lapis blue (996 TT) p-cars, 3 with classic grey leather and one with black leather. The black interior was in the 928 GT I bought used, the other three I ordered.

I think you go with what you like, but on re-sale you need to stick to the more middle of the road combinations as they will suit more buyers.

Good luck,

JCM

With this car at RPM, I think the interior works well. Not loud or gaudy. I actually saw this car the last time I went up to RPM, looked pretty good, the interior seems to be in near perfect shape. I bought my Signal Green Turbo from Ray and most thought I was nuts (because of the color). But then when I get it, it seemed like everybody all of a sudden wanted it. Go for something unique
