Default 993 seat problem

Greetings,

My car has power seats. Fore and aft adjustment has stopped working, but all the other ones still work. When I push the fore or aft button, you can hear the motor working, but it just doesn't move.

Is that particular gear stripped? Any thoughts? Thanks.

I was advised by a long standing dealer wrench that I keep the seats no further back than within a half inch of the absolute rear position, otherwise what you describe as your problem may happen. I believe your seat along with the fore and aft mechanism will need to be removed, adjusted then remounted. There are probably others on this forum that can offer specific directions on how to fix.

Sometimes you can unstick the mechanism by sitting in the seat and rocking it vigorously while holding the adjust button. It is know as the "993 bucking bronco" manuever.

My passenger seat stopped working when a big heavy guy sat in it!
After a few days, it recovered from the shock and it started working again on its own....

I have heard of coins getting stuck in the track.I would remove the seat and check for objects in the seat track.Pretty easy to remove the seat

Steve is right you have to do the bucking bronco manuever to get the gear back on the track
silly but it works. I had the same problem in my TT. The trick then is to not get it to the end of the gear rail.

Thanks to all the RL'ers who responded. Bucking Bronco maneuver worked on the first try.

Yippee Kay YAY!
It's a shameful little 993 secret but it worked for me once also.

The "993 bucking brono" maneuver is always best done in a closed garage, out of the sight of neighbors or passing gendarmes. It looks pretty strange, and takes about 45 minutes to explain yourself out of a trip to the pokey. I have a restraining order that prevents me from doing it again within 1/2 mile of an elementary school.
