Scam-a-lam-a-ding-dong
Just a heads up.
There is a guy using the name Bob Haley tring to work some kind of scam on Rennlister who have items for sale.
He emails poorly worded messages like this:
I AM INTRESTED IN UR..993 Turbo Hollowspoke Wheels and Tires $2400
Hi,
1)is this item still available for sale??
2)where are you located?
3)may i know why, you want to sell it?
4)Has this item involved in any damage before?
5)can i see more picx??
6)do i need to repair?
7)what year is this item manufactured?
8)what is the final price?
9)can you help me determine the weigth?
10)i will like to know if you do accept a
certified cashiers check or money order as mode of payment?
If you reply to him he says has his own shipping company he wants to use. He says he is in South Texas, but when I pressed him for a phone number he gave out a bogus New York number.
I did a search on his name and he's shown up eleswhere on Rennlist recently.

yep, he emailed me as well for my wheels.
same exact questions which i thought were a bit too general after i replied so i googled his email address.
came up as a scammer from some ham radio website.

Thanks for the fast response and i'm very much satisfied with the condition of the item and the total agreement with the final price.i'm located in Houston,TX 77002,all i need you to do now is to consider the item sold to me.i will like to have your full name and address with your phone number in order to mail out the check to you. Right now i'm out of office to Canada for a business trip but i will instruct my secretary to issue the certified check out to you immediatly.notice you don't need to bother your self about the shippment,i have an international courier shipping company that will come for pick-up,they will also determine and secure the shippment because i have some item which will be ship together with yours so let me have the weight very well so that a waybill can be created before shippment will be done,because i will be adding some extra fee to the check which is meant for the shipping and insurance.all you need to know is as soon as you recieve the check you will deduct your item fee and send the rest funds to the shipping company information that will be provided to you in the meantime.get back to me with the more picx for proper documentation and i will also tell my secretary to call you,get back to me immediately to know your decision and make sure you also get back to me with your FULL NAME and ADDRESS with your contact phone number for payment,hope to read from you soon...

I am actually his shipper and I have the check in hand. I'll be there Thursday, if ok that with u. I would help if I can give you the check and you give me the cash. You can give me a little less, say 10%. OK?

A scam. Here is how it will go down...... Take the money (the check) to your local bank. Deposit funds. Bank puts no hold because you are a good customer and have never bounced anything. At least thats what Mr. Haley is banking on (no pun intended 
). Give him the cash. Get call from your local bank telling you the check is a fake. Bank tells good customer (you) you owe them the amount of the check. Mr Haley has your money in hand. Ahhhh how many ways have I seen this done.
P.S. I work for a bank. This scam has to many faces but the same procedure.

11 Center Place, Newark NJ 07102
My phone is 973 792 3000.
Please make the check out to Leslie Wiser. Leslie will also handle any aspect of the transaction so you or your secretary can speak directly to him.
Please also ask your shipper to ask for Leslie when picking up the item.
