Took a friend out in the car yesterday......performed some spirited driving...even hit the rev limiter in one of the gears....all was fine. Filled up after work, the cap was on tight so again, no problems.
Drove 12 miles, accelerated into a road in second, hit an uneven bit of tarmac and the check engine light comes on, had just been on boost.
I am now thinking of getting myself an OBDII reader for my laptop...probably an ELM327 based unit with scantool or some other freeware...
Any quick and easy things to check?
Or do I just get the codes off it and go from there?
cheers.
Taj.

Taj,
Get the code and you can gets lots of help. But... we must have that code.
<edit> Chris is always the first to say "top end". More than likely, if it occured on bumpy tarmac, its a bad ground connection, or other minor tidbit. Get the code.

So, I will need to get a reader and will report back on the code.....will probably take a few days to get one. I really fancy the PC route as its possible to view engine parameters in realtime...kinda nerdy but i like the idea of that.
In reply to the questions a it has 100k on the clock, had a topend at 72k and piston rings as well as transmission overhaul.
I am not sure about the harness recall...how would I know and what is it?
cheers...

After a wash and vacuum i could not resist a gentle "investigative" drive.....she feels fine driving at low revs, just as responsive ....once she warmed up, she accelerated as normal and produced 0.8bar when driven hard.......CEL is still on.
I have the code reader on order. Could take up to 2 weeks from china! Will keep ya posted.

I'll bet Steve McHale at JZMactech in Kings Langley would as well. It takes all of about 60 seconds to do. It's worth a phone call for peace of mind. Better than waiting two weeks.
