Default Care of Special Grained Leather for C2S

The 1997 and 1998 C2S came standard with "Special Grained Leather" on parts of the dash and door panels. It has sort of a "snake skin" type look and is really nice.

However, I've noticed that the leather-- which after all is now 10 years old-- seems to be "drying out" somewhat, and losing it's original look and richness.

I'm wondering if anyone (perhaps one of our detailer types) has been able to restore these leather bits to their original richness.

I use the Lexol leather care product on my seats and it keeps them feeling mosit and supple, but I'm hesitant to apply it to the "special grained leather" without knowing the effect.

Have any of you C2S owners had success in maintaining or restoring these leather parts, and if so, what products are you using?

Thanks.

I use Lexol for cleaning and a product from Duragloss for conditioning. Try the Autopia forums for the best info

I thought that I read somewhere that the product isn't leather. To me it feels too thin, I was thinking it was a textured vinyl.

I don't care for Lexol. I used it for a few years thinking it was the best, but found it always left a tacky flim on the leather. The worst was the steering wheel as your hands would stick to it.
I didn't feel the cleaner or conditioner were anything amazing either.

Recently switched to Z-10 Zaino Leather in a bottle and Z-9 Leather soft spray cleaner and I couldn't be happier with the results in my 993TT's black leather interior. Great smell on the Z-10(smells like a leather store). Really brought back the feel and color of the leather as well as made it feel softer.

Best of all no buffing and no sticky residue! Both work on leather or vinyl.

+1 on the Zaino. I've been using it for 3 years. Excellent results.

If you want the absolute best leather conditioner you will have to go to your nearby Jaguar dealership and purchase "Hide Food". It's about $40 a jar, but nothing compares. Guaranteed.
