Just added the 996/Boxster 3 spoke steering wheel. I am guessing it is 5-10mm smaller in diameter than the stock 4 spoke wheel. The guage visibility is intact, but anything smaller in diameter would compromise the exposure. The thumb rests are a welcome addition and make increase additional grip options. The install was very easy, and while some have had issues with getting the M30 torx to fit into the back of the steering wheel recesses (the 4 spoke holes are too small for even 1/4" drive sockets) I found that a 4mm allen wrench was all that was needed to loosen the retaining screws.

Eclou
The stock wheel is certainly too big, it was big in '95, today it is like driving a bus !
I borrowed a smaller 996 leather 3 spoker (whilst I was having my latest Techart one done) and have to say I did like it a lot, good size feel and shape and I almost told them I would keep it !
When the Techart one arrived back shrunken and reworked to "MOD500-spec" I realised that the 4 spoker is a classic design and feels so much more substantial......

I have been looking at different options as this is one of my next mods.
Mark D: which wheel is that? looks good.
I have been checking ebay regularly and am also considering an aftermarket one (I think carnewal has one called daytona, with airbag for about $700) what do you guys think? any recommendations?

I used Dallas Custom Steering Wheels. They are pretty new to the Porsche market but do very good work. A bunch of 993 folks have had them do work also, with great results. I had them do my GT3-franken-shift-****, rear portion of the eBrake handle and the plastic tray in the center console in Alcantara with matching stitching. Kinda ties it all together... I like it a lot.
