Default Help w/ Steering Wheel Part #

I recently purchased a carbon fiber, 3 spoke 996 steering wheel for my 993tt. I was under the impression it was black, given the part # on the wheel and its appearance in some pictures the seller emailed me.

Though the wheel is mint and never used, turns out, it's dark grey and doesn't match the black airbag I purchased a couple of weeks ago, nor does it match my interior.

The part number on the wheel is 996.347.804.54 A28. It was my understanding the "A28" marked post MY 02 color code black. Guess I was wrong.

If anyone could help me decipher the part #, I would greatly appreciate it.

Looking at PET it shows 8YR, A08 and A28 as black for that part #.

Thanks, Phelix.

That's unusual. The wheel is definitely dark gray. Check out these pics...

Tim,

I just saw this on EBAY. Before you take a bath on it, have you considered dying it? A lot of people have been happy with the results. I just got a CF wheel with airbag for $600.00 on EBAY. They don't seem to be fetching much these days.

Try some dye. Any good upholstery shop or cobbler can make it perfect

8yr is usually for black. I say dye it. Just saw a post here or Pelican where someone did it and it came out fine. Or leave it to a pro.

Nice wheel.

Not to worry - take a look at this DIY - I started with a Grey wheel and converted to Black

MD11PLT.
I've been looking for a grey carbon fiber wheel, including e-bay. Can you tell me were you saw the one for $600 with air bag?
Thanks,
Len

Tom - great new avatar, I'm loving the Turbo S lip.

930TB - Hopefully you get this CF wheel issue worked out, it's one of my favorite "upgrades" to my car.

Len,

It was on EBAY. I was out bid and that guy flaked. I got a second-chance-offer and told the seller I would pay what my winning bid would have been had the guy who out bid me not bid (did any of that make sense?).

Thanks Charlie. I was going to do a snow theme like yours, but it didn't work out

This is great, thanks. I was thinking about dyeing the wheel, but figured the end result would be far from perfect. The black airbag (it's full leather as well) should be dyed, too. Any recommendations on an upholsterer in the Boston area?

It has been a fun process trying to get the right wheel for this car. First wheel I bought ended up being a pre-MY '02 996tt wheel, thus the black leather didn't match the post MY'02 996 airbag I purchased. Then I bought this dark grey wheel from a PCA seller for $700. The color code was A28, just like the black airbag, but it turned out to be dark grey. The color codes are open to interpretation, but hey it's all good fun! I love the damn car so much, I don't really care.

Thanks again for your help.
