I will agree that the 19's are blingy even though I have them. I would think that anyone serious about tracking their car would run 18's, I know I would. Yes, if you took the same wheel in an 18 vs a 19, the 18's would be lighter. However, the 19's I am running are lighter than 99% of the 18's out there, so it is not always the case that 19's are boat anchors .

I agree 19 for the street 18 for the track. I really believe that a hi end set of 19 look amazing on a lowered 993 with a big lip. Most of all on a wide body car.

stoppani - yes, it was a typo. For track 18 inch wheels are a must. My RS went from gross understeer with the 19 inch Michelin 'Cup' tires (N Spec basically street tires) to neutral with 18 ionch Fikse wheels and Hoosier or Cups. Note the 18 inch cup is a very different animal than the so called cup tires that come on the new GT3 and RS.

best,

Bob,

We actually agree... its not that 19" wheels (with the correct overall tire diameter) per se that are inferior for the track... its simply that the proper R compund tires are not available (yet). At least I hope we agree. And... 19" wheels and tires are more expensive and less available. If you don't need R compounds and don't mind the additional expense (and the very slighty harsher ride due to the smaller aspect ratio), the 19" are fine.

The other thing to consider is that you will trash your track wheels over time (rocks, cones, whatever). So, unless you've got a lot of money, you want to keep the cost of track wheels down (within whatever specs you need width, construction, etc). You don't want pretty wheels for the track. Those CCW C14's seem like one of the best track wheels out there (light, strong, and reasonabliy priced).
