Default Lightweight wheel options

What are you suggestions to very lightweight wheels,
(front 18x8 or 8.5 and Rear 18x10 or 10.5 or 11),
for stock tire size (225/40R18 and 285 or 295/30R18)?
Usage would be about 90% normal street and 10% track days.

I found interesting link
http://www.wheelweights.net/wheel-weight-size.pdf
where are many weights of wheels.

From that list, BBS RE-Mg are the best, 18x10 wheel weights only 7.5kg compared to stock hollow spoke 12.0kg version(rear).
But they are exclusive sold through by Mantley Racing
http://www.manthey-motors.de/nextsho...de=html&id=638
which gives Biiiig price tag for them and also change their name to MM2, price is 7228 EUR from complete set

Another choice for lightweight wheel might be
Volk TE37 Porsche
Picture can be found for example here
http://autowerxinc.com/pop.php?products_id=1349 and here
http://www.streetsolutionsracing.com...=10994&image=1
They are much cheaper, 2700 USD

Or what do you guys say?

Those look different than the regular (aluminum) BBS REs. Are you sure they're the BBS wheels?

There may actually be wheels lighter than the BBS ones. Volk racing and the other Rays companies from Japan make some pretty lightweight, forged, one piece wheels. TireRack has the TE37s, which are a LOT less expensive than the BBS, and are 18 pounds (8.17kg) in 18x8.5 and 20 pounds (9.07kg) in 18x10.5. Definitely heavier, but only $2,576 (1910euros) for the set!

Whoa, about the above ^^^, I didn't read the second part of your post...

Yes they are BBS wheels. I wrote yesterday to BBS and got answer that Manthley Racing has their magnesium wheels excusively to sell..

Volk (or Rays) has very nice lightweight Porsche wheel model with proper offset setting - see link
http://rayswheels.co.jp/cgi-bin/cgi2...odel=020_TE37P
a bit drifting style lookin but not bad looking..
Maybe I choose them if nobody shows better choice

On a slightly related topic, I noticed my set of stock 996tt wheels were made by BBS.

You can buy two sets of the Volks and a bunch of dry and rain tires and have a set mounted with each for the same price as the BBS with a very small weight difference. If the wheels are only for the track, the Volks seem like a good choice.

The Dymag carbon rim / magnesium spoke wheels are reputedly the lightest, ligher even than the Manthey Sportfelge MM2s. Expensive, of course, but are ordered with custom offsets and can have a proper hole for the standard Porsche crested wheel cap. The Volk TE 37s are probably the lightest "mass production" after-market wheels available, about 15% heavier than the Mantheys and 20% than the Dymags.

I have read and seen pictures how easily these carbon wheels will crack..

These Volk's TE37Ps are 3kg lighter at rear and 1.5kg lighter at front per wheel and they cost under 2000e. I think it is worth of upgrade..

Taken from their webpage:
"
The Volk Racing TE37 by RAYS Engineering is the current line of street
and race wheels in various versions. The main line TE37 is the forged
aluminum version.

Material is 6061 aircraft grade aluminum. This material is hot forged.
1st forging process is done with pressure of 5,000 kilograms per square
centimeter. 2nd forging process is a slow process with 3,500 kilograms
per square centimeter.

The lip is also forged to 3,500 kilograms per square centimeter. This
allows the wheel to have less material than other wheels, but have more
strength and durability.

The wheel's excess material is machined off (to tolerance of 1/100 of a
millimeter). Powder coating and clear coating is done by a special
proprietary process to ensure long lasting quality and durability.

The weight of Volk Racing TE37 is 8 lbs. for 15 x 6.5 and 16 lbs. for 18
x 8.5. With this kind of lightness and durability, it is no surprise to
see that this wheel is a very coveted wheel among enthusiasts.
"

not bad looking:

IMHO you really shouldn't be using magnesium and/or carbon fiber wheels for a street car. The Volks are probably the most practical "ultra-light" wheels for a street car.

Jussi:

I was going to buy Volks and decided to go with CCW C14s. They are custom made CNC machined, forged aluminum made by a butique shop in FL that specializes in race wheels. They are the same price ($2,600) but you choose your offsets and your widths and they weigh 1lb per side more than the Volks.

The look is awesome. You can see the grooves from the CNC machining which gives it a very industrial, race look. They will also sell you whatever tires you want and they will match the best internet price you can find, so you get the full set with tires mounted and balanced, for under $4k shipped to your door.

I have them on my C4S but haven't taken pictures yet. I'd be glad to take some over the weekend and post them for you. In the meantime, visit www.ccwheel.com.

I agree,
Those BBS (Manthey) ultralight 18x9J Magnesium wheel weights 7.0 kg and "..Volk Racing TE37 is 16 lbs. for 18x 8.5.."
that is not much difference in kilos if that 16lbs is correct. I have read also that they weight 17.2 lbs but hey, it is still 7.8 kg and cost 1/3

I bought mine with tires installed so no, I didn't weigh them myself, however, CCW is a very small boutique shop. I dealt with the owner and he's a very helpful guy and a straight shooter. He weigh them before he installed the tires and they came out at 19/21 lbs for 18x9 and 18x11 sizes (Volks are 18/20 for 18x8 and 18x10).
