Default 993 TT 60,000 mile service

Hope to use your expertise in the TT forum. I have owned '95 993 for about 3+ years and I'am getting the urge again..... A nice '97 TT is about to come up in my area. It has 56,000 miles and has been well taken care of by the outward apearance. Mechanically I don't know, as they are sending it out to do thier pre-showing once over....inside and out. The question is two part:
1) What are the important areas to focus on?
2) What will the 60,000 service bill look like and shoud that be part of my bartering over a price. Thanks any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd say $1200 is a good starting point for a 60k service. This would include engine oil, gear oil, brake fluid, both oil filters, air filter, fuel filter, pollen filter, spark plugs and of course a very thorough inspection including scan for fault codes (we always do all the little stuff like test battery /charging sys, check all climate controls/lights/electrics, lube hinges, washer fluid/wipers, etc). It is several hours' labor book time to do the spark plugs, but of course you'll want to do a compression/leakdown test on any 993tt you are considering anyway. If the car needs belts/pulley update, or has oil leaks or needs a clutch or the slave cyl/accumulator or other problems, cost will only go up from there. These are not cheap cars to maintain by any means, but if you find a good one that has been well taken care of and can negotiate a major service/other repairs in the cost, you will be thrilled at how great of a car the 993tt is. They aren't worth more than the 996tt for nothing.

Roger,

Chris is spot on for the 60K miles service. I had my 30K done a few months ago and it was about the same. As for area to focus on, use the search feature of the board. Lots of thread on the topic.
Good luck with your purchase!

We try not to get too repetative here, especially when there is a response as accurate and concise as Chris made.
