I wonder how the IC temp from the Hammer compare to my HKS gauge setup. Wonder if location of sensor is a factor. I do not have temps from a Hammer.

I indicate 68 Deg C on a 28 Deg day at WOT shifting from 5th to 6th. Speed indicated on GPS is 172 mph. (277 kph). According to the mapping indicated by tb993tt I am losing 4.5 deg of advance or more.

How do the water cooled compare with IC temps.

FWIW. HP Lieb has tested the car at max GPS recorded speed of 340 kph after rebuild last year.

LAT, no problem my friend, maybe I can do you a favour and do some testing on your CTR2 around the 22nd on the 'Ring ? I will even buy the hammer myself...

Seriously, I would tent to think that he hammer is faster than the gauge as far as real time data is concerned. Also the timing "pull" will be different between your car and TB's or MOD's, depending on the programming.

I guess it is irrelevant whether the Hammer is faster/more accurate than an external gauge since the Hammer "sees" what the ECU "sees" and reacts to, the Hammer numbers are the ones which determine your performance.
Whilst 68DegC sounds very high, here is the other side of the ECU reacting to inlet temperature - you can see that at 69.75DegC my engine still gets 92.97% of its max boost. It is only when 80.25DegC is breached that the boost is drastically reduced to 86.72% (so 1 bar would become 0.87bar)
Is it reasonable to conclude that (for my engine at least) at 68DegC inlet I would have 6 deg less timing but still plenty of boost ....

Bottom line for your set up is even if you are losing ~50hp (on DIN) through the timing retard, 340kph still represents sufficient grunt however with a 100-300kph run we could probably determine how much power you are making at the top end

If the "Hammer" is an OBDII connected device I would say an external gauge hooked up to a mechanical sensor is going to be far more accurate.

The OBDII port cannot come close to delivering real time information.. By the time the OBDII port shows you the values, they are already 4 or 5 secs old. This is the biggest downside to using dataloggers.. They are just too slow to provide "real world accurate" data.. What they will do is give you a good comparison between changes you make in your car.. Since the capture time delays are consistent, the deltas between 2 tests performed will be accurate, but the numbers themselves are not indicative of what is really happening.

Pretty sure the Hammer doesn't use the OBD-II data stream but speaks more directly to the DME...

Since the ECU uses the same data the Hammer reads, it seems useful to me.

This is what I was hoping someone would clarify.. If it doesnt use the OBDII to gather data, then I would be interested in picking one up..

Anyone know the best place to buy?

There's a company in the UK that sells reconditioned ones for circa £1000 - no idea if that's a good price.

For that price, I will offer MOD his airline ticket to come and help me read my numbers! At least I would have met him!
