Default Single or dual oil cooler?

What do you guys think. I was on the fvd website and there are quite a few choices...

(I have read the archives but not much info on the dual oil cooler)

I am not sure if there is any hard data to support either case but I know if you want a simple plug & play solution that works, pick up the RUF oil cooler.. it is the same design as the Cargraphic GT oil cooler at a lower price.

It is at least twice the capacity of the Turbo S aux cooler and the install is straightforward and proven results.

Running 2 coolers requires more plumbing, more connections, and more places for failure..

I would think that having 2 inline coolers creates more resistance through the lines than just running 1 bigger one.

2 is better for cooling when running higher boost, etc

Ok.. You've peaked my interest...

So, if you want to build an all-out 3.8L high boost engine, you are better with 2 smaller oil coolers than 1 larger RUF one?

What is the reasoning behind it.. Is it just because the combined surface area is greater than the single unit?

Has anyone on the board run a dual oil cooler setup?

Uh Dan, What do you guys in the Great White North consider "scorching".
Just kidding!
My experience with a 490 HP car was that in 105 F plus weather, the S oil cooler would start to lose ground at about 15 minutes into a 20 minute session. The cargraphic/ruf unit not at all.

Remember both the S and the Cargraphics/ruf are secondary oil coolers.

Exactly.. This is what was confusing me.. So when FVD advertises a TWIN-OIL COOLER setup, does that mean the car will then have 3 oil coolers??

Very curious about whether or not that setup is better in the long run over the RUF/Cargraphic one..

My long term goals are to have the car setup for a 3.8L, twin plug, etc, etc, so I am looking for the BEST possible setup.

BTW... Its 37C over here today.. 40C with the humidex..

turbo s is good for a mild ecu change, after that you want the GT2 setup. twin oil cooler is 2 including the orgional . so you are adding one additional large cooler

Are you sure about that?? If so, its a little misleading what FVD is advertising.. If you look at their pic, they show the kit as having 2 oil coolers that they provide. Does that mean they tell you to remove the STOCK primary oil cooler in the car? If that is the case, putting ANY oil cooler onto the 993 would be considered a twin-oil cooler kit since they are all AUXILIARY ones you add..

Here is a pic of the FVD Kit:

My stock 993TT with an S cooler ran too hot at the track when I was running hard to catch Scott Mellor.

The S cooler is not enough for hard track driving with a Ultimate Motorwerks Stage 1 setup (roughly 475HP). I had to add a third oil cooler (much bigger this time).

Pstoppani....Where'd you get 475hp out of a UMW stage 1????? With the ECU, 16/24s & 100 cell cats and 1 bar....you're still far shy of that. Without head work & cams I believe you can't pass 450 hp...unless you turn the boost up to kill...and then you've only got a couple of pulls to enjoy before POP!

Tell us...what's your secrete?....nitrous?.....
