Default 993 Camber

What camber do you recommend for car that is mostly tracked? I have -2.5 now on the rear, and driving to and from events I'm wearing out the insides of my PS2's in less than 2000 miles.

Car has Bilstein PSS9's, lowered 1.5 inches, H&R sway bars and strut tower brace.

Thanks

Rick

Camber doesn't usually wear tires as much as toe, find a shop that understands kinesmatic toe.

Rick:

Thats really good advice from 911/Q45.

Optimal camber settings depend on what kind of tires you use and tire temps, but I'd tell you that 2.5 degrees with PS2's is far too much. Those camber settings are more appropriate for race tires.

As suggested, find a shop that really understands the 993 rear suspension and owns the Kinematic toe measuring tool thats required to do a proper job of alignment.

Like most things, alignment settings become a compromise of sorts that balances tire wear, road behavior, and maximum grip in corners.

I'm running -2.5 rear and -1.7 front for street usage. My PS2s are wearing pretty evenly after about 3k miles...methinks you have too much toe in the rear.

Anything more than -2deg in the back is too much for a car with street tires. I have found rear camber of -1.7 - -1.8deg to be a good compromise for street and track. Decreasing rear toe also seems to free the car up some.

Thanks guys/how much rear toe do you recommend? I didn't mention that I pull a wheel trailer to the track which might aggravate the problem. I use PS Cups on the track. Kind of expensive going through PS2's rears in no time.

Steve W. can confirm, but I believe a good setting is 30minutes total. For a more aggressive setup, you can go up to 35' total.

Anyone setting his car for the track/street should not have a large camber spread front /rear. Meaning front camber should be the same in the front and rear, if not slightly more in the front.

FWIW, Manthey Racing (who are really good at this) sets street cars that visit the track at -2.1 Rear and -2.3 front for street tires. I run -2 deg front and rear the same usually for the street, now I have -2.3r and -2.5Fr. If you want your car to handle properly during a track day, you should not worry much about tire wear, it is an expensive hobby! As Don said, Toe is also a main culprit.I do understand it sucks.

One thing that is a universal truth, it's an expensive hobby.
