Absolutely right.

Stummel, the 959 had sequential turbos, meaning one starts spooling up to a certain RPM and then the other picks up from there, with the advantage of providing minimal lag. I will try posting the first page.

Yes, the "stock" 959 had sequential turbos but I read somewhere that this special 959 did not have sequential turbos to make more power and a better top speed.

I am not sure but I think it does not make any sense to have 2 equal turbos in sequential order, does it?

another point to discuss is that the article states a 911 needs 500+ hp to reach a top speed of 342kph.
this seems like a generalization to me. When the 959 reaches 339kph with 520hp why would the NB 911 need 500+ hp to reach that speed?

The stock 959 used similarily sized turbos using a sequential setup.
According to Paul Frere's book (page 292 in the German version if you have it), the exhaust gases get diverted to the left turbo in the initial stage, and as soon as it is being maxxed out, the excess gases are gradually diverted to the right turbo with a system of valves and pipes. At 4,300RPMs, both turbos are fully operational.
