Default A "mind of it's own" anyone had this problem?

My 96 tt starts perfectly, warms nicely, then rpms suddenly spike up to 2500 and drop almost to 0. After a little sputtering it recovers and runs fine. Then 5 min later it cuts out while in 1st at an intersection - I'm a SITTING DUCK! I limp it to the side of the road, it recovers and gets me home with no more issues. IDEAS anybody???

Thanks, a "beautiful mind" gone to hell in a hand basket!

Could be a MAF sensor, lots of weird symptoms for those. Pull codes to confirm.

Rob,

I may have a spare MAF sensor for you to try out. Its a pretty simple swap. I'm out of town this week. ca993twin@yahoo.com

Is this happening with the transmission in neutral and your foot off the gas?

Rob,

Keep digging to see if there are any codes stored. I'll be back in town on Monday. I hope.

A good friend suggested it might be the idle control valve... Anyone replaced one of these?
