I realize that this is off-topic, but there seems to be a number of folks from California in the 993TT forum. My questions is about the CA "Pink Slip". As some of you know, I'm in the process of buying my first Porsche, a 1996 993TT. After some doing, the seller finally faxed me a copy of the title. I noticed that there are "watermarks" of the word VOID all over the place and I assume it only shows up when the title is photocopied, and it isn't an old title that is no longer valid. (Suffice to say that I'm being paranoid because of the fact that the title is in the seller's father's name, but the seller signed for his father).

I just made a copy of a California title issued in 1997, and another of a Calif title issued in 2005... they are different. The 2005 title has a border that warns that the title is void if you can't see the "bear" watermark when held to the light. Of course, the watermark is not present on any copy.

I guess a paranoid (paranoid = anybody more careful than me) title holder wouldn't want you attempting to steal his car by using that copy of a title. Seems a bit outlandish to me, but there are those here that still block their license plates from viewing. I don't get it.
