'97 TT PPI results: opinions?
Alrighty, a new contestant has entered the ring.
1997 TT with 57k miles. I had the PPI done this
morning.
o 60k service is due very soon, obviously (30k
done at 28k)
o power steering pump drive is leaking oil
o one of the turbo's center housing is seeping
a bit (mechanic called this "minor"). No
smoke, etc
o 80% left on front brakes, 20% left on rears,
and the rears will need new rotors when the
pads get replaced (dished, fronts were
_slightly_ dished).
o slight rotational play in CV joints (said it
was normal)
o the hood has been repainted, although the
mechanic could find no evidence of crash
damage. Said it was a top-notch paint job.
o front end needs alignment (inside of front
tires badly worn)
o battery will likely need replacing soon
o compression: 155 150 150 150 155 155
o all service records, performed at dealer
o drives straight and true, pulls strong, clear
title, very few cosmetic blemishes (small
chip on hood, small ding on driver door)
Asking price is $63k, by far the lowest I've
spotted for a 993TT in SoCal. I figure $2500 in
maintenance right off the bat (steering pump, 60k
service, new front tires). The inspector said
the housing seapage wasn't a big deal and not to
worry. About $500 to rebuild it. He gave the car
an overall thumbs up, and when he heard the asking price, he said it sounded like a Good Deal(tm).
What say ye?
