Red face 97tts problem

Hi, first post here. I just bought a 97 turbo s
a couple of weeks ago. Sweet looking 2500 mile car. Although now I am a little frustrated.

On a drive to Palm Springs shortly after I bought the car I was in 6th gear and started to accelerate. (not hard) My check engine light came on and also by bar display stayed at .2 even after I slowed down.

I needed a smog for transfer as well as the check engine light issue. I took the car to my local dealer 3 days ago. Yesterday they finally got to it and the asm called and said to find out the problem it was possibly a 9 hr process.

He said the fault code had something to do with the fuel running lean and or fat. I am not a mechanic but I am in the business of cars. I am awaiting a call today. IF they try to tell me it will be more labor I would like to pull the car and go to a reliable ind. Porsche mechanic.

Does anyone have any recs on this subject?

thnks

Sorry to hear about your glitch on such a fine car. VERY frustrating!

Where are you located? Someone here will have a reliable independent for you.

Regards,

Bill

I am in Orange County Ca.

And my car is done. They don't know exactly what was wrong but after adjusting several things the light miraculously went off!!

I am ashamed of myself for ok'ing the additional labor to locate the problem without more investigation. I just really wanted my new car back in my garage!! I only had put 300 miles on it so far.

mb,

I'm not certain what may have triggered the "check engine" light, but I do know from personal experience that the boost sensor tends to get "stuck" at 0.2 at times. This has happened to several of us on this board, and without any signficant consequences as far as I know.

Having said this, I do have a new boost sensor in the garage which I plan to install soon. As in any car, sensors have a tendency to go bad over after a few years.

Of course, my check engine light has never come on at the same time as the boost sensor hijinks, so...

BTW, welcome to the club (and Rennlist)! That's a special car you have.

MB,

Glad things were taken care of for you. I know how frustrating that kind of thing can be. Fortunatly, these cars are extremely reliable when properly cared for.

See your email.

My check engine light just went on during uneventful city driving. Can't feel or see any problem. Same thing happened about a month ago and dealer said computer recorded a misfire, which is no problem, and they reset it. I seem to remember others posting that after have misfire readings they just left it on and it went off in a few days. I'll try that, and if it doesn't go out I'll go back to dealer next week. Have a DE at Willow Springs on 9/23 so need to get it remedied by then. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Picked up my car and all is well. I think there was something with the fuel mixture. It is running smoother and like a top.

Didn't want to stop driving tonight.

Thanks for the responses.
