Is the boost reading blank or always on 0.0?

I think that rules out the display itself. There is a pressure sensor in the intake manifold that provides the boost signal. It is possible that there is a loose connection. The sensor has a pretty small passage to the manifold and it may be plugged, which would kill your reading. I think these will cause the car to go into 'limp mode' where you will be limited to fairly low boost. Do you still have full power or are you down ~100 hp?

I would guess it is related to the check engine light - hopefully it was a solid light, not flashing (flashing check engine indicates a major problem and the car should be taken for service immediately). The non-major faults have to repeat 3 times (I think) before the check engine light goes on.

I would check the wiring in the area of the intake manifold. In any event, you should get the car to a service center to read the codes for the fault.
