Is it a silly comparison, considering that the SL 55 costs MORE? Even if you took a 993TT at its original MSRP and tacked on the Ruf conversion, it still comes out less.
The SL 55 is no performance bargain.
JJayB, I'm looking forward to witnessing the results. You will probably surprise some of the Ferraris and Turbos, but your MB will probably have to bow down and concede to the Ruf. I'm willing to place a wager on it.
If you want to measure lap times, fahgeddaboudit. The SL will get smoked by the Ferrari and Porsches. I would love to run my M5 (it's not stock however) against your SL at WSIR.

Bill,
It's not an 11 sec car like your RUF, but for a few bucks more Brabus will get it close in a straight line. If SL55 loses 700lbs it might me a race. MBUSA will not confirm if the SL65 will be imported and that will have 900 ft.lbs of torque. The SLR should be out early 04, I'm on the list and it should be about the same performance as the new Carerra 10cyl with 600hp.
Just did a tune up on the 993tt as it had over 110 race hours. Got some impressive dyno figures over the last motor. I'll bring both out at our next showdown. We should sell tickets.

Here's the wager, best of 10, 0-60mph against Bill S. and I get street drag tires. He,s lighter has same torque and FWD. Oh, I forgot to ask Bill if he wants to..."drive it like its stolen"

Hey JJB,
How about double or nothing from 0-150, since that's where the SL is supposed to be so great. 0-60mph is not really a good measure of performance.
The SLR will be an interesting car, although I'm not sure how it will perform on the track vs. a CGT. I think the Porsche will have the advantage due to its lighter weight and mid-engined setup.
