Lightbulb OT: Auto Financing on 1995 Car

<img border="0" alt="[offtopic]" title="" src="graemlins/offtopic.gif" /> Hey All a question for the wise and young alike.
I know this may not seem to be on the right board but I feel more comfortable getting responses from people who write up on these (993, 993Turbo Forums).
I'm trying to gather as much information as possible so next time there is a Ruf BTR for sale I am able to make the deal. At 22 years of age I tried getting a loan for a 1995 Ruf BTR through the local banks in my area. But was pretty much denied not because of my financial record or age but because the car was too old in a sense for the bank to accept. The loan amount
I was asking for was 45k USD. Has anyone ran across a similar situation and what are some thought of the online financers such as Peoplesfirst.com? Read over everything on the site and no mention of model year restrictions. Just want to know how safe are these things and/or could they end up stabbing you in the back with some kind of unknown rate after you sign all the dotted lines?
Thanks in advance-

harrY

Harry,

I do not have your age-related issues since I was 45 when I purchased my 993tt, but I did use Peoplesfirst.com to finance a portion of the purchase. I have had no problem whatsoever with them in the 18 months since then and they had the best rate at the time as well.

I have recommended them to others and see no reason not to at this time.

I was 22 when I bought my car (23 now) and I had the same problem. I tried to get my father (who has very good credit as he takes large loans out for his buisness multiple times a year) to co-sign and they wouldn't even let me do that. My father ended up loaning me 20k, and I put 20k down. I pay him like 600 dollars a month.

As a Side note, my car is no BTR but it makes about 400hp. Looking back I could of had a C2 for half the price and been just as happy I think. I'm not so sure if I'm responsible enough to be driving something so powerfull. With the car at 3000rpms and having so much torque at the slightest press of the pedal its like a drug. Going from 60-100 seems to only take seconds. Any ticket over 100 and I'll be riding my bike for a few months.

Two words for you - credit union. Join one and deposit a little money from time to time. At some point down the road you will be able to get very nice financing for a car the banks wouldn't touch.

Sad thing is I am part of a credit union; Service CU for that matter and I'm military which these guys cater too as well. With about 8K in there safe keeping they yet would not finance me. Specifically stating a 1995 car is too old for them to take in return. But the above info is a great help so far thanks for your replies. Still aggrevated that I couldn't get my dream machine.

tetzlafh, if you're military, check whether you can join the Penntagon FCU. Always had a good experience with them.

Oops, I did not look closely enough to see where you're located. In the U.S. the credit unions are the best places to get a loan on an older car. I was approved on an 86 930, but couldn't find a car that I liked at the time.

Thanks again guys any info is greatly of use to me as I can't have anymore shattered dreams. I'll look into the Pentagon FCU as well as other CU's when I'm on vacation to the Motherland. Hopefully get some direct answers from the people who hold most control over my Porsche buying abilities.

Knowing what a 22 year old in the military makes, I suspect your loan problems have little to do with the age of the car.

Wow 22 purchasing a 993 TT!?! Shoot I'm 21 and thought owning 2 944 Turbo's was awesome, couldn't imagine having a 993 TT at 22.
