Post Short shifter installed...

Thanks to viperbob, my short shifter is installed!!!

The feel is much better than stock, imho, at at $100, this is probably one of the cheapest TT upgrades you can do.

At first, I was a little hesitant about taking a hammer to any part of my car, but after I got used to it, I was freely banging away!

Total time took about 3 hours, but that included other "non essential" things like spray painting the tunnel cover and BS'ing for a while too.

Sorry, I forgot to take before and after pics.

It's probably about 20-30% shorter. It moves the shifter back about 10 degrees closer to the e brake too. I think that the shifter is a tad higher with the stock shift ****.

It's not a huge, huge improvement, but for $100 and 2-3 hours of labor, I'd highly recommend it.

What kit did you buy and where did you get it?

I bought it from http://www.schatzmotorsport.com and it was about $99. It's just a piece of metal which replaces the stock shifter. No linkage changes as in the c2s version. However, you need to dimple the tunnel cover. Do a search and you'll see some postings from viperbob about it.

Install should take about 1-2 hours for an expereineced mechanic.

I just read the description on the unit from Schatz and it said that my 1997 TT would not need modification to the tunnel. Do you know anything about that?

All C4s and Turbos require this mod becuase of the 4WD system. Don't know where you say that on the Schatz site. The disclaimer is still there for our cars..

My mistake, it mentioned the "shift ****" on the '97 and later models. Darn, I thought I'd save some body work!!

All you need is a ball peen hammer and about 5 minutes of work. Pretty simple. I even posted pictures previously of the size, depth and shape of the dimple.

Wow Jeff. An artist and a mechanic. What other special talents do you possess? If you throw in that front rod at the bottom and relieve the tunnel cover for that, you could sell the drawing to Schatz. They need some sort of drawing / picture and directions for the procedure.

Or with a couple of the photos, maybe you could add it to the FAQ? Just a thought.

It's funny that you mention that.. I think that I actually GOT the picture from Schatz a long, long time ago.

I don't have too many pictures to write up a faq, but I'll do a text only writeup. Perhaps if some other local TT owners want to so the short shifter install, I can take some pictures then.

Thanks for the motivation- guess I will finally try to install mine this week.
Did anyone heat the pan before hammering? Any pan stretch?

RR, can you take some pics of your install when you are doing it?

No need to heat the pan. It does stretch a bit, but not that much.

This is what I had posted some time ago for the Short Shifter. Jeff, did I send you any photos, because I knew I had other pictures of this?

"The relief in the middle of the circle is approx. 1" deep. The clearance for the rod runs about 6"s forward of the relief circle I made"
