Steve,
I know that the shocks are set stiffer going to a lower number. I forgot when I first put them on and set at 7 F and 9 R. Horrible mushy feel and lots of porpousing. Now quick stiff action over bumps.

So what's the point in having nine degrees of pre-load if only the "top" two or three settings could possible be useful?
Is this so a '95 993 Tipto could be dialed in with $1500 suspension to carry the golf clubs _really_ smoothly?
Are all PSS9 kits from Bilstein "born equal?"
ps. I noticed there's a Bilstein reseller offering the PSS9 kit for $1500. What's the labour cost to get a good shop to install this kit, screw in the corner balance, dial in a four wheel alignment and crank up enough camber? Should I consider the installation as something I might do myself and then just take the car to a shop for the tuning?

Carrera GT,
Somw owners do want a more cushy ride, and think the higher settings are too stiff for the street, or their local road conditions.
If you have a reasonable tool selection and are mechanically competent, then I would install them yourself (there is the DIY to guide you on Robin's Site). $1,500 is a good price for the PSS9s. Unless you plan to go the monoball route with the PSS9s (extra $800 - 900) then you should consider the top hat from Rennsport for the rears. When you are done, Custom Alignment in Mountain View can do the corner balance and alignment.

Bob,
I just received confirmation from Weissach that the RUF PSS-9 settings are indeed the same as the standard Bilstein system. That is, the lower the number the firmer the setting (1=stiff; 9=soft). Also, counter clockwise rotation of the dial is firmer, clockwise is softer. There is no permanent indicator on the shock body to align the number to. You just have to count the "clicks".
Sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

viperbob,
Thanks for the pointer to the alignment shop -- who else do you use to set up a track car?
In the short term, I need a seat and mounting hardware to create as much headrooom as possible (hopefully with fore/aft rail slider) and I need some sort of temporary paint protection for the occasional track day (I have one in late June at Thunder Hill) plus, I'd like to get a simple BK brace bar and set up a four point harness (I happen to already have two pairs of Sabelt long belts in a box) and the obligatory DV cam mount and fire ex.
Any and all advice, welcome.

by the way, I do intend to go with mono ball mounts -- I'm keen to dial out as much of the push in the car as possible.
Anyone know of a cheap set of good wheels and slicks for sale to fit a 993 Turbo?

Carrera GT,
User Zcat3 has some info on seats. I am sure if you do a search on the 993 board, you will find lots of info for tall drivers needing a good DE seat. Most of the other info you are requesting can also be found by searching the 993 board. They are a LOT of 993 drivers that take their cars to the track, so they have a lot of advice.
I like the monoballs personally. As far as the wheels, might just check eBay or Wheel Enhancement depending upon the quality you are looking to get in a set of track wheel. Personally, I went with the 996TT wheels as they were less than the 993TT (remember, they made a LOT more 996s vs 993s) and they are 1" wider in the rear. I also like the look better on the 993TT. I use Michelin Pilot Cups for both street and track use.
Good Luck.... What event is at Thunderhill at the end of June??

But nothig definitive and I couldn't find references to specific products or vendors. I am trying to find a solution that drops the seating surface three inches. I'd like to retain a fore/aft slider adjustment.
There's a private track day at the end of June -- I'm trying to get ready in time.
Shopping list:
* seat
* lowered seat rail
* brace bar, dv-cam mount, fire-ex
* steering wheel spacer (legal?)
* floor mats
* paint protection (temporary stick-on or spray-on?)
* brake pads, fluid, power-bleeder
* wheels & slicks
* enclosed trailer
* divorce lawyer
(not necessarily in that order)

settings ?
viperbob uses
Front = 2
Rear = 1
I use
Front = 5
Rear = 6
I was surprised to see the relative differences.
bob has a stiff rear, and I have a stiff front
[did I just say that ? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> ]
which settings does everyone else use ?
