Post Throttle Body Sizing

Over on the 996 turbo board, CJV has a thread about enlarged throttle body. Does anyone here have enlarged throttle body experience with our cars? What is the stock size of the 993tt? What is the largest available for the 993tt? Is a non turbo 993 throttle body larger and if so would it fit our cars?

The throttle body on a 993TT is much different from the standard 993 or a 996TT. If you look at our throttle body it is a large aluminum assembly with 2 separate chambers going back and forth to the intake. One is smaller and obstructed internally (low speed) and the other is larger and full open (high speed). This is in contrast to a small aluminum housing with a butterfly on the other cars.

There is very little material around the butterfly to enlarge this area. Also, there is almost nothing to be gained on the 993TT with this modification according to the tuners I have talked to on this topic (you could shave the rod / epoxy the ramps if you really want the extra couple of HP) If you want to take out this assembly you would be gain more power by porting / removing the molded aluminum obstruction from the smaller cross chamber.

I started down this path looking to enlarge the TB, but instead will be try this other mod later in the summer.

Bob, you have been a geyser (not to be confused with geezer) of knowledge regarding mods and technical issues for the 993TT. Just wanted to say thank you.

Back on topic ...

My 993 has Mahle 102mm P&Cs, FVD k24 turbos, FVD ecu, FVD cams, cat bypass pipes, and a larger intercooler. The 930 is stock but soon to be modified. The 944 is a racecar with a 968 engine block.

JW,

Sounds like a nice car...what FVD cams did you use?? Are you also using the FVD intercooler? What color is it? Have you had it dyno'd with the 3.8 kit?? Any issues with cooling as the factory cylinders use a thinner vane structure to allow for additional cooling with the turbo?

John,

Thanks for the kind words. I have been around this game for a while, and I tend to absorb new info quickly and hope I can apply it or let others know about it where applicable. Just getting the info I find to be 90% of the battle...

I basically have the 525bHp kit that FVD offers. I cannot tell you more about the cams other than it also required mechanical rockers. The intercooler is a ZUCZ unit. I bought the Mahle 102mm P&Cs from Andial and so far I've encountered no cooling issues in the one and half years since I had this setup. I have not dynoed the car so be my guess to estimate the power.
