When I was researching these cars and came across my eventual car, I looked into the modifed issue quite a bit. I literally spent hours on the phone with Weissach (the company that modified my car) and exchanging e-mails with the likes of Stephen Kaspar at Imagine Auto and Steve Weiner at Rennsport Systems. The general consensus I got was that a properly modified 993TT should be just as reliable as a stock car but the engine may last a bit less. Weissach thought that if a stock 993TT engine would last 150K, my engine should last 130-140K. The good thing is that during those 130-140K I have an extra 120 HP to play with. Now all bets are off if the car spends its life on full boost on the track. That will greatly reduce the life of a stock engine as well. It is important to keep in mind that unless the car is under full boost, the mods are not even being put into play. In addition, things like the aux oil cooler that most modified cars have will actually add life to a car that is just driven under normal conditions.

So - Anir - come on buddy, live a little.

Bill,

Your point is well taken. If I was totally concerned with longevity, I wouldn't take it to the track.

Run away, Run away! Or offer him a # that allows You to buy a fresh TT motor after You find all the nightmares hidden inside. A heavily modded car always sells for less unless You find the buyer who wants it just so and it is in excellent shape. Knowing where I have seen cars trade in the last 6 mo's I would honestly just move on. If You want specific(real) prices of where they have been selling just email me. Hope that helps, I figure if You walk away from this one You save about 40k in the next 3-4 mo's min vs if You buy it!
