You should talk to Mike Schatz about what might be in your car that is special.

FYI - The first TT's to come over were for demo and performance runs for the press, etc. They were run out of SoCal (What is not Circle Porsche, as I recall). The mechanic who supported the cars used to work at Rusnak TO, but has moved to a dealer in the Inland Empire. His name is Jeff (forgot his last name). He used to do work on my car. He has a bunch of stories about changing first gear on the car that Hurley Haywood used to get 0-60 numbers. As I recall they changed 1st gear 3-4 times in about a week. It is possible that your car was one of those - the good news is that it got great maintenance and attention during that time.

On the Rods, talk to Mike. As I recall (which may not be correct) the earliest cars got Ti rods as the final rods were not fully tested.

Yawn Scratch. Hi Guys. Just got back from being in Japan for two weeks, where I was without internet as I was only on secured servers. What did I miss?

Mark, do you know if my car has Ti rods?

I was asking Steve for his serial #, my last 6 digits were 375146. So I must have just missed having Hurley beat up my car, it had 36 miles on it when I took delivery in June 95. Where is the build date displayed?

911/Q45,

The build date is stamped right on the sticker on the doorjam that has the VIN and the US approval stuff. Too bad you didn't get your car "properly" broken in. Maybe you'd like for me to try some 0-60 in 3.6 second launches?

Scott,

Welcome back

Steve,
Mine's a 3/95 build too, first batch I guess. Come on up to San Luis and do those launches, but bring your checkbook. My 47K car yearns for that sport clutch to replace the original. I wonder if I got the good con rods, even if I missed the euro rear bar?

911/Q45,

There's something extra sweet about your car's options... sunroof delete and sport seats. If I were buying a new one, I'd certainly do those two, plus the 3-spoke steering wheel. I'd probably ditch the rear wiper as well (I don't drive my car in the rain anyway). Its just SERIOUS sounding, like having no cupholders. As if I'd ever allow anyone to drink anything in my car.

If (when) my turbos go out, I'll do the hybrids, and if the clutch ever goes out, I'll do the light flywheel clutch assembly. So far, however, the car runs perfectly.

Willow Springs on May 31st! Not too far from SLO, where, BTW I went to Cal Poly. A very, very, long time ago.

If true, he would likely know the VIN cutoff for them.

Pete,

"A geeee, ya think? ;-)"

Huh? I'm trying to decode your message, but I don't get it. Say it again, a little slower.

Steve,
Your car was brought in by Porsche Cars North America as a show car. It was also the car loaned to the magazines as there test mule. Thats why it was never licensed until around 24k miles. I understand that it was one of the first ones in country.

I thought I told you that already.

For those that don't know I looked into buying that same beautiful arena red car back in November.

Pete,

Thanks. Yes you probably told me that once, but at my advanced age...

We discussd once that the previous, previous owner was told by the Porsche dealer that this was the VERY car used in the "Kills Bugs Fast" advertisement. I determined that wasn't true, and the dealer probably said something like "...its the same as the car used in that ad..." or somesuch. Did I mention that by the time I contacted that owner he had JUST trashed-canned his stock mufflers? Darn.

I think, however, I'll stick with that Hurley Haywood story, and claim it was my car that was run through the 0-60 ringer. I'd sure like to get any back issues of any magazines that tested an arena red TT back in 1995 or 1996. Anybody have any leads on this?

Scott,

Odd, but there is a suspicious water spot that won't come off the car. I'm running some DNA tests now...

You would not believe the depth of the shine on Steves car... gotta be from all that polishing at the shows.

The story about the special rods on early cars is true (I don't know about Ti, does this mean titanium, if yes then I don't think this is right, the rods were just reinforced from the Gt2 race program) my '96 chassis no ends 370412. When my car went in to RS for its new engine, special rods were on the build sheet but when stripped, RS informed me that the engine already had the special rods we are talking about.
Interestingly when I had my engine rebuilt recently after 15K miles, the Special rods were slightly bent and the engine now sports a set of Carillos
