Well, the honeymoon ended. My 97tt was running without issues until a few weeks ago. When I turned off the car, there was a strong burning oil smell. After reading many archive posts, I found that this was relativly common.
Well, I had my mechanic take a look as the smell tunred into SMOKE!
He immediatly diagnosed the problems as a leaking lower exhause valve. So, $1,646 later, I had the repair completed. When he was in there, he went replaced all the lower exhaust valves.

Is this normal...the car only has 35K miles and has been serviced religiously.

Not sure what the total situation was for you but there is a common fault with the oil filter valve. One of the oil filters has a valve that regualtes the oil level. If the valve malfunctions, the oil level raises too high and goes past the oil seal on the turbo. Can smoke on start-up or for me, started leaking out of the high pressure hoses and dripped down to the bottom of the car. The dealer at first thought it was a valve cover. Have you serviced the car recently?

I did...the 30K was done at 32K (the car now has 35K). The repair is complete and I no longer have oil leaking.
Thanks for the response...
