Seriously though, I've been thinking of getting a 356 for the nostalgia and resotriation. Might be a fun hobby...

I think restoring an older 356 or 911 would be fun. Someday, I'd like to take an old 911 and turn it into an RS. Maybe when I'm retired.

"...see some documentation on 996Turbos that have sold..."
Okay trackman, what do you want me to do? Have the new owners write into this forum?
I personally had a 2001 in red sent my way for $80K +/- or best offer (side note, funny, but it DID finally sell on eBay for low $80K's... But I guess that does not count right trackman?)
Then a Seal gray unit for $78K...
Both are now gone.
So what do I do to appease your curiosity?
You have to know that I really don't mind if you want to believe you live in a world that does not have depreciating 996 turbos.
Perhaps I am on the inside & your not... Being a big chief @ ImagineAuto may have its advantages after all. I am sure you too will see more of these trickle down into the areas you may frequent. Then maybe you will be as surprised as I was when I first saw the trend. BTW... Our shop 2001 996TT (600HP / 700TQ) was just purchased last month, is that good enough to tell you we may know the market?
Hey, as for the 356... Bill & Jeff I know you both would love one. My '63 1600S is still my favorite Porsche. One caveat though... These 356 units are a different world from 911 things. Your whole outlook must change. All the parts mags are different, the people are also a tad different (wonderful). Rust also plays a role in 356 buying, and the little 4 is an odd powerplant if you get to take one apart & look around.
Neat cars. 100% play.

Just closed a deal on a 2001TT (no stories) for $83,400. 16K miles, orient red/savannah, 6 speed. July 00 production.
I saw the car on Ebay (but did not buy on ebay) so here's proof to those who dont think you can sell a high end car via Ebay (directly or indirectly)

Its not the high $70K's car I told you about, but it is darn close, and I did not have to look far. That will do I assume.
BTW... This car had hit the reserve price (obviously) which was under $80K. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />
