Ideas for hiding car expenses...
this is carried over from another thread..
Let's here what's worked for you guys in the past.
So far, these have worked for me:
a) Using paypal, so the charge goes on my credit card
b) Using the last check in our checkbook, just before I refill it with a new set of blank checks
c) Saving up "cash back" when at the grocery store
Any more clever ideas???

1 - Get a separate credit card.
2 - Get a P.O. Box (To send the bills to)
3 - Don't mention Credit Card or P.O. Box to wife

hahahaha, jeff... i thought you were better than me. now i feel SO MUCH BETTER. i am not alone...
separate credit card she doesn't know about.
separate bank account she doesn't know about.
send all car related bills, info, to trust worthy friend's house.
save save save on everything, i don't eat lunch or drink coffee anymore.
told her that her honda tires costed 1500/set.
her oil change was 200.
collect every coupon you can get on anything you need to buy.
sell all your other toys (my 20+ titanium bicycles)...

1) Overpay your bills, especially your auto insurance, and then use the refunds to finance your upgrades.
2) Learn from the Porno industry. Take a $500 business dinner expense with your clients at "le gran prix" as it billed to your credit card. When in reality it was for a sleazy one night stand at the local alignment shop getting your corners balanced, and your dipstick pulled.

The Paypal thing works great... got me the secret ECU. Shhhh. I sold my race wheels and tires from the Cobra, and hid the cash in the gun safe. For some future toys. A buddy of mine is having his Cobra catback exhaust shipped to a shop, and he'll have it installed while his wife is away on business in London next week.

Ask her would she rather you spend it gambling, drinking or on cheap hookers, OR buy some great mods to make your fantastic car even more valuable. And at the same time, make you a much happier guy and thus she would be happier too. Besides, we all spent $50k-$100k (993 or TT) on the car to begin with, what's another couple thou??

On second thought. Forget the part about the hookers. And I always say, honesty is the best policy. So don't hide anything. It's about time you do what you want to do. If my wife nags me about spending a couple hundred bucks, she probably wouldn't be my wife for long.

Easy - tell her that the side-marker/bumper/suspension/whatever was damaged/broke/was-hit/whatever in the mall parking lot while you were inside buying her birthday/anniversary/belated-Valentines present.
Of course don't tell her that you may not have tightened the screws properly (Jeff - this is for you since you're looking for new sidemarker lights
)
Also, sell old parts on eBay and keep the PayPal credit for future purchases.

Me:"Honey, we need some Cat bypass pipes. The car will be lighter and faster. They are a lot of money."
Karen:"OK. Sounds great!"
Me: "We need new rear rotors before I go to Willow."
Karen: "OK. I'll pick them up after I get Grace from pre-K."
If Grace were older we'd be tossing a coin for track instruction time.
The answer to the question is to marry well!

Thanks for the great ideas, guys.
I've been slowly collecting parts for some time now. It's a little bit easier when they are small ticket items. Things like the cat bypass pipes are going to take a bit more ingenuity.

Yes, this does mean that I'm going to be at the track again soon. I think that I can manage 2 track events toward the end of this year. YEAH!!!

Ok, so I ordered the clear side markers today and my exising ones will go up on eBay!

You definatly married well. I knew it when your wife Karen first started asking questions about getting a TT and she was genuinely interested. I think that it's great that she is so involved and appreciates the car too. Your wife and Bill's wife sound alike in that way. It's funny though, I think Bill's wife might be a more agressive track driver than Bill himself.
