Default Advice needed

HI guys, I'm posting here in rennlist because I know answers are going to be unbaised.

I have been bitten by the Ford Gt bug, I want one, I need one. Drove the thing at a DE event and loved it, drove anotherone on a road trip and liked it even more! dont like th efact that its a simple ford... but its awsome either way.

My problem is I cant justify the purchase of another car, specially another sports car. My wife would simple kill me. At this point in time my garage looks like this. '96 993tt ROW x50 with 19" Ruf wheels (Not selling, just rebought my old car, it has sentimental value), '00 Nissan Skyline GTr vspec (modded like crazy, not riced. over 600hp), '01 Ferrari 550 Maranello (full Novitec bodykit, wheels, exhaust etc.) and my daily driver an '04 audi a8 (only car that is being financed) Now, would you sell any of the above? or should I just bight the bullet and get one? or simply forget about the GT?

I love mechanical cars, I will never get a modern ferrari, well at least not as a keeper, too many electronic things. if they are expensive to fix now, imagine in 10 years? or simply trying to find parts for an F1 tranny? NO THANKS! Thats why I love my 550, sure it has traction control, but thats just it. Same thing with the GTR and 993, all my cars have cable operated throttles, I hate E-throttles, the ford GT has a cable to the throttle, I like it even better!

Comments welcomed, phone number from any good shrink too!

Everyone needs an outlet, it sounds as if cars are yours. As it doesn't seem money is your wife's objection, just the quanity, I would get the GT. Maybe consider storing some of the cars elsewhere or just taking her on a great vacation to minimize the pain. Lots of people would like to have your problem.

I've never driven a Ford GT (or even ridden in one), but that doesn't stop me from saying that I find the car very exciiting to see/hear, and the "Ford" brand name deosn't bother me at all. I'm old enough to remember the Ford GT40 victories at LeMans, and those cars remain high on my all time favorites list . If you can swing it, get it. Here is a picture of the new Ford GT along side a GT40. Nice pairing.

I was in a GT at the track and was pretty underwhelmed. The whole package seemed kind of industrial. Like Steve I'm a GT40 fan from way back, but I don't think the new version would wear well as opposed to the other cars you have. That said, now that the bloom is off the rose, you can probably get into and out of one without too much loss if you want to confirm or deny your jones for it.

david: first off, awesome taste in cars. could u post pics of the stable if you can....id love to see the skyline. i was looking into getting one awhile ago, but im always hesitant due to the conversion issues with Motorex

i love the GT, but only u can decide if its worth parting with one of the others...not sure i could bring myself to sell any of the other toys u have either! then again if $$ or space is NOT an issue, then id go for it...and like Bill(NC) stated, get the wife/family something nice to lessen the pain as well

PeterS I have access to a 40th anniversary Cobra, number 20 of 40, BUT...its to hardcore for me.

PJB, I'll post pics soon, although I have none of all the cars together. weird, but true. You see, mi casa q es su casa (my home that is also your home) had a 2 car garage, I'm just finishing remodeling it and in about 2 weeks I should have an extra 4 car garage with double highth ceelings, once that is done I'll have all cars together. In fact the GTR is at a place call PTP over in austin, they installed larger turbos, cams, bla bla bla. Its ready, but work has kept me grounded in mexico with no time to go and pick it up. They claim that it has in excess of 600hp, let wait and see, one thing is for sure, even before this newer mods it was faster than a Gallardo.

911/Q45, true, its industrial looking, but nice in a way, it doesnt clutter you with gadgets, its honest and simple. But yes it may not age nicely. I'm kind of young, I dont remeber the cars from its glory days, although I do remeber reading about them and knowing detail about the cars that few people in mexico now off. I wish someone made a true BUndel of Snakes headers for the new GT.

ca993twin, I shouldnt worry about the "Ford" barnd either, but people down here in my home town are very.... "you got out of a FERRARI, for a FORD?" AH! you never make all people happy. My wife is one of those people that say that, even my daughter a 4 year old knows about the F car, she loves it. A few days ago I asked her which car she liked the most, guess which? yep the F car. She said that the 550 was hers, the 993 her little brothers and teh GTR of my new born son, he is 4 months old!

Bill (NC) Nah! my wife doesnt really care much about travelling, jewerly or material things (I got lucky). it's more of a mental thing, too much money tied up in vehicles taht only depreciate and cost a fortune in taxes and inssurance.

I only have the rest of the year to decide to get one or not, import laws only allow me to bring legally into mexico a new car, not an older model. GT sell for big bucks down here, I'm buying one, I'll import it and sell it, in the meantime I'll try it out for a couple of days, if I like it I'll find a way to get me one, Hey! I know I can make money doing it, even better.

Some pics of the 550, Yes I know, the wing is.... I'm taking it of.

David

Where in MX are you from? My wife is from Matamoros (hope I spelled that right!).

I wouldn't lose the TT for a GT. The TT is one of the greatest cars ever built, IMHO.

I would get rid of the 550 and get the GT. The 550 is not very appealing to me and the value keeps going south. The GT is much more raw and exciting in my book.

C4s Surgeon, I will get one, just give me couple of months, I'm just to in live with my babies.

robroy72, I'm from monterrey, close to matamoros, but still about a 3-4hr drive.

hal m, It is true that in the usa prices of 550 are going down, same here but just not as bad. In fact we should only somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-15 in all of mexico, I might even be stretching it. In Monterrey, 3 largest city (4 million people) in mexico and the first in per capita income, we only have 3, 2 550's and a 575. In true honesty, I dont want to sell it, for me a ferrari needs to be a V12, front engined and with a regular stick shift, no f1 crap. and if I sel mine? chances of getting another one are PRETTY DARN SLIM.

In mexico we cannot import used cars, only new ones. So it gets difficult to buy things you always wanted and you didnt get or had, an sold, just like my 993, I had to buy it back 2 years after I sold it.

Hmm .. I guess its different for regular cars, my wifes father bought a 4 year old suburban in TX and drove it back to MX ... he can make a 4YO US car Mexican (as long as its not classed as a luxury brand) but not a newer one. My mother in law wanted a mini van, he went to the Toyota dealer in Matamoros and priced out their model brand new, it was over $1000 US a month for 60 months!

My wife always talks very highly of Monterrey, one of her friends is going to med school there.

I'm suprised to see the Skyline more than the other cars you have, for some odd reason! RHD must be a pain. Have you ever seen the episode of top gear where he (Jeremy Clarkson) is driving one on a runway?
