Wheel/Tire Dilemma
My wheel/tire dilemma: I recently replaced my 1996 993NA with a '96 993TT. On my old narrow-body I ran 225/285 Michelin Pilot Sport Cups on BBS wheels. They looked great and I could drive to the track and have a fun DE with no tire change. (I live in a hi-rise apt, which means no trailer and no extra tire storage.)
My "new" car came with stock wheels/tires and two sets of HRE 9.5" and 11.5" wheels with Hoosier 245/40/18 and 305/30/18. I like the look of a wider-than-stock tire to fill out the wells, but can't run the Hoosiers on the street. The stock tires look anemic on the TT, and I don't want to use them on the track. I can't seem to find R compound big enough for the HRE's - other than the Hoosiers.
Ideally, I would like "streetable" R compound, wider-than-stock TT tires that would fit the HRE's. If I can't make that work, I'm curious about any experience on wider-than-stock wheel/tire combinations that may help me find a better solution. All input is appreciated.

I've been running Toyo Ra-1's 275/335 on Forgeline rims on the street. They'll easily fit your rims. Tires pick up lots of debris and tramline somewhat however. Might want to consider 245's and 305's or 245/335's.

Look at Yokohama Advan A048; here is the link to the TireRack page-

Lots of 18" sizes. I use them on my R32 track car. While they are as expensive as the Hoosiers, my experience is that their performance is nearly as good and stay that way a lot longer.

Thanks for your input. The Toyo options are interesting, but these tire combinations result in greater diameter to the rear tires than front. The OE setup is the opposite. I've been told the diameter (and thus revs per mile) relationship is important for the AWD to perform properly. What has your experience been? Also, the 275/335 combo sounds huge! Any rubbing? (My car is lowered.)
The Advan 235/295 combo has a diameter relationship very close to OE, but the rear tire max rim spec is 11". My 11.5" HRE's may be too big. These could be a good tire for my stock rims.
