i ordered the model 3030 OBD2 Car Reader http://www.iequus.com/products.asp?cid=10 and got it for 69 bucks. that model 3110 u posted probably does a LOT more than i would want to do (plus id probably just mess something up), so i just went with the basic tool to check/clear codes.

I don't know about "best," but I use Auto Enginuity on my laptop:

It works fine for everything I've needed between my 993TT and E46 M3.


I decided on a laptop application for data logging ability and easier upgrades compared to a hardware device.
