Hello TT-fans.
I am a new member living in Oslo , Norway.
I am about to get new set of tires on my car.
Question 1.: Do any of you use anything else than N-rated tires ? ;
and if so which ones to recomend !
Question 2. : Armor Glove (prevent stone-ships).
Any experiences ?
Replies welcomed.

Sorry Stummel, but I think you bare incorrect about N-rated tires and stiffer sidewalls. Could you be thinking of R-rated (race-oriented) tires, which generally do have stiffer sidewalls? N-rating simply means that the tires meets Porsche specs. It doesn't mean that a similiar, non n-rated tire wouldn't meet those specs... just not confirmed by Porsche. There is a recent thread (which got pretty heated) on this topic over on the 993 forum. If you are a "belt AND suspenders" kind of a guy, or a guy that generally buys the extended warranties, (ie, risk-adverse) than the N-rated tires will give you a bit of peace of mind. I tend to be a more risk-tolerant, so I don't worry about it too much.
There is no single correct answer... it depends upon your abilitiy to tolerate risk.

Hi Steve,
I know that N is Porsche spec. BUT the Porsche spec has usually stiffer side walls than the standard tires. Many standard (non N-rated) 18" tires seem to be more limousine oriented now.

Thanks for enlightening me.
I feel quite as ca993twin. I am quite sue that tire-companies favour Porsche so much that they
in some way or another are sponsering Stuttgart for free use of tires.
Porsche is a business company for all it`s worth , their production numbers shoves a different and
more business orientated strategy compared to forgone times.
ZR-tires are ZR tires no matter who is producing.
Hankook is among the best ZR tires produced according to Reifentest.com
But still owners are reluctant to try them - since Stuttgart hasn`t approved(???.)
The only tire better than Hankook (Ventus Sport K104) is Bridgestone RE 050A.
The thread in Hankook (K104) also apeals a lot.
Il think I`ll take my chance on Hankook.

N rated tires have been tested by Porsche and approved for use on your car. They test for wet and dry handling, compatibility with PSM and ABS as well as noise and harshness.
This does not mean that a non N rated tire cannot be used, rather, that Porsche has not tested the tires. I have used both N and non N without difficulty with the proviso that the non N tires were top quality from Bridgestone, Pirelli or Michelin etc. I would not trust my Porsche to low budget tires. In sum, using N rated tires simply means that Porsche has tested them and approved them for use on your car. Think of it like insurance. By the way, there is no correleation between N rating and stiffer sidewalls. All high performance tires tend to have stiffer sidewalls for better handling precision at the expense of ride.
