Default Budget Boost Gauge

I've been doing some troubleshooting on my car recently and actually was able to do something that cost very little! I got 7 ft of 7/32 windshield washer hose, a 30 lb pressure gauge from an air compressor and ran the hose from the T near the thottle body over the roof to the passenger side window. My wife held the gauge while I cranked it up in 4th to confirm 18lbs of boost. Total investment-$15.

Hey that sounds like a good idea, I'm going to try something like that. Should be able to tunnel it through the hole under the back seats...

Stupid question....

Has anyone tried to get a MAP sensor that reads higher than .8 bar?

From what I have seen the gauge is able to read higher than that. I once saw 3.0 on the screen. I have to imagine that the limiting factor in the gauge readout in the sendor unit.

Who is game to find out for sure?

That would be an elegant solution. I think this has been looked at before and the consensus was that the factory boost gauge reads out a composite of several inputs and can't be practically upgraded.

An addendum to my cheap boost gauge. It's only suitable for troubleshooting, as the gauge isn't designed for vacuum and leaks when off boost.
