Talking Ruf is an amazing outfit

Rufus was having some trouble with a mysterious CEL (code 1140: improbable load sensor readings). Tony (Air Kuul) even gave me his old MAF to try to fix the problem. No help. In addition, my immobilizer warning light was turned off because it was continually flashing. I finally took it to the Porsche dealer to see if their diagnostic equipment could help. Big problem... the Porsche diagnostic equipment could not connect to the Ruf ECU.

I emailed Ruf and asked if they could help. Remember, my car has 102K miles on it and about 15k miles since the Ruf conversion. I was expecting them to suggest that I send them my ECU for trouble-shooting. But nooooooooooo. Instead, they tell me that a Ruf technician is on his way from Germany!

The technician, Christian had a stop in Phoenix to help a CTR-2 get through smog testing, and came in late last night. I had arranged with Redline Automotive in Thousand Oaks to allow Christian to work there. Very, very nice of them.

Christian brought a spare "test" ECU with him, and with it was able to determine that it was my old ECU that was failing. He was able to plug the Porsche diagnostic equipment into the new ECU, and everything looked perfect. In addition, he said that my records at Ruf show that the original ECU was programmed as if I had no immobilizer. He will send me a replacement ECU as soon as he gets back to Germany.

I don't know what to say. What amazing customer service.

I love these guys.

Amazing - guess that's how they developed so a good reputation.

Maybe I should be looking for a RUF CTR....

Steve, I remember you switching out your MAF months ago I thought, funny....it appears your problem was solved by a phone call and good timing.

Steve,

That sure makes me feel all warm and fuzzy owning a RUF.

Thanks for the good vibes. See you in 2 weeks. Another RUF get-together.
