Question Excessive Front Tire Wear

I'm having excessive front tire wear. The wear on the fronts is even across the tread but I've gone through two sets of front tires and haven't gone through one set of rears completely. Here is the relevant info:

1997 993 TT
Still AWD
Michelin Pilot Sport Tires
PSS-9 set full stiff
100% street driving

I haven't made it in to the alignment shop yet so I don't have alignment specs yet. My local shop is stumped. Anyone have an idea what's wrong?

You've got a great alignment shop near you (in Mountain View... I forget their name). That will get your answer... but I'd guess a ton of toe. Post back with your findings.

Yeah, the place is called Custom Alignment and that's where I'll be going. I've used them before and have been happy with them.

Rears should wear twice as fast as the fronts, probably bad toe like Steve said.

OOOPS - see what happens when i am meant to be at work.....

As Q45 says - 2 sets rears to every 1 set fronts..... especially if you drive like me!

If i knew how to edit i would...

Simon.

Yeah, that's what I expected, for the rears to wear faster than the fronts, even with AWD. I suggested that the issue might be too much toe to the service shop that works on my car but the guy said that it would not wear even if that were the case. I thought that it would be possible to have a combination of too much toe along with the right negative camber that would result in even and excessive front tire wear but that's probably an unlikely combination. I'll see when the alignment is done next week.

Yes please do report there findings and what adjustments you made. There are few threads with this info with respect to our turbo cars and guys that run more aggressive tires on the street. I assume you track the car as well w/MPSC ??
