Michael,

I looked at that very impressive list... wow. But I also thought you had done some performance-related mods... turbos? ECU? oil cooler? clutch? I didn't see them on your list... but that's a very long list, and I'm lazy.

Good luck with selling that great car, should be no problem. Its a real great value.

Beautiful Car.
For those nonmembers, here's what the ad says:

I'm selling my 1996 Blk/Blk 993 TT . The car only has about 4K on the new motor as well as the suspension. The car has 73K on the odometer. Asking 65K. Call Mike at 310-980-2341 or email me at Michael@fsibusinessmanagers.com . I have a lot more pictures if anyone wants them.

CP,

I think i'm gonna buy an M5. I need something a little bigger right now. When I have the money to buy another toy, i might just build another one. BTW your car looks awsome! Thanks and happy holidays to you.

Michael,

Ahhhh... an M5, I'd assume you're talking E60 M5, not E39. If it's E60, you may enjoy this thread.

https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/236778-e60-m5-ruf-and-friends-a-pictorial.html

I had an E39 M5 and still pay close attention to the marqee. The new M5s are experiencing some first MY issues right now: vanos oil line ruptures, electronic oil-level-indicator gremlins, and tarnsmission issues. In time BMW will sort them out. No doubt it is a great road car, I just wish it has matching reliability to keep it on the road. In case you have not found this yet, this is the forum I visit for my M5 fixes.

Enjoy and good luck with the M5.

Can't afford the E60 M5 right now. I'm gonna go E39. How did like your's CP? I'm gonna probably go for an 02 with 40K or so on the clock. I know they had some clutch issues, and some early year 2000 and a little issues in 01, but I figure i'll buy this with a 6yr 100K warranty, put some wheels, suspension, exhaust and just drive for a couple of years until I can afford to have another toy like the 993TT. The TT is just a little to impractical for me to drive daily. I'll probably end up building another one in a few years.

If it's the last generation E39 M5 with the V8 you end up with you'll want to look at Dinan's S3 supercharger kit. October issue of European Car has an article on it. If 550 hp (at the wheels) and 445 ft/lbs. of torque sound tempting you'll need to set aside and extra $69K for parts and labor!!!

Michael,

I love my E39 M5. I personally will not buy the E60 no matter the HP. Kinda like the 993/996 thing. Can't handle the look of the new one. I also do not like SMG or Idrive.

For the E39, my suggestion is a 2003 with CPO if you can find it. The 03s are dropping to high $40k to low $50ks by now, so when they come off lease en mass in 2006, the picking should be easy.

The main issues I am aware of for the E39s are:
MAFs: they are like consummables and plan on replacements (2 per car) about every 50k miles average. However you can buy the sensors only for about $100 each. OEM BMW with housing and all runs $480 each. Total rip off. The probelm is that bad MAFs really screw up the perfromance and deriveability of the car. So it is frustrating for unsuspecting owners.

Carbon build up (akin the 993): Check these threads for details.
http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/sea...earchid=521296
About 25% of the cars are infected. The newer cars seem less prone, but it could be due to lower miles. Not cheap to fix, so watch for this item.

Misc. electronics: last stage relay (AC control) other sensors (O2, CAM etc.), seat memory module, NAV display module, etc. tend to break. That's why CPO is important. Owning the car w/o warranty is a scary thought.

Mods for driving pleasure;
SSK: the OEM shifter is very sloppy. This is almost a must.
Suspension: PSS9 and Ground Control coilovers are excellent (I had GC). The GC kit has adjustable camber plate so it's nice. I suspect that can work with a PSS9 as well.
Chip: the Power Chip is the best chip by far (beats Dinan hands down). Much better throttle response and other benefits.

The E39 M5 is a spectacular car. I hope you find a good sample to enjoy.

If you have any questions, just ask.
