993 Turbo can beat new M5 until 200-240 km/h

There are also other Porsches like 996TT against that M5.
See also this link's other pages - nice cars!

Depends on how you count it.
The 993TT will be in the lead until 200 km/h from a rolling start. However, the BMW will accelerate quicker from 170 km/h due to lower Cv. and higher output. Meaning the TT can lead up to somewhere around 230-240 km/h from a still standing start (if you sacrifice clutch and gearbox).
Also, the article quotes 430hp for the TT while it has 450hp with Turbo S kit.
Still the easiest way to get the lead is to throw in a few turns..

This is the super fast M5 that is basicly slaughtering everything it goes up against. Based upon power to weight, the euro 993tt has a better power to weight ratio. Something is rotten in Denmark, I mean Sweeden.

0-60 mph 5.0 sec
0-130 mph 16.7 sec
ergo 60-130 in 11.7 sec
quarter mile 13.2 sec@116mph
kerb weight 1830kg (guess this one is the porker, not the 993!!)
From a post from the 60-130 mph thread:
From Car & Driver Magazine:
60-130 MPH:
993TT: 13.4 sec
993TTS: 12.2 sec
Viper (450 HP GTS): 10.8
As it's a US TTS fair to assume 430 bhp, not euro 450 bhp

I did a run at Brunters with Adam's M5 when my car was a stock 430.
Adam used launch control and I did an, erm, unsympathetic launch and there was not a whisker between the two cars.

a.) No matter what people think. The BMW has impressive performance and I have no problem saying it's a wonderful piece of engineering.
b.) I had no intent to burn up my clutch, gearbox or machinery in a straight line test.
c.) M5 has a very quick SMGIII - Me, I don't want to throw in the gears in 120mph and feel lucky.
d.) It's very hard to determine speed of the other car while accelerating yourself.
e.) My car has 450hp from factory, I have no idea if it has that today after 7 years.
Here is a post from the time: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-turbo-forum/198195-993-tt-vs-bmw-m5-v10-2005-a.html
I feel a bit stupid doing a comparisson between the two cars. They are completly different breed.
Cheers

I drove the M5 last weekend and I have to agree with Rassel that it is an impressive piece of engineering: from the engine, the gearbox to the active supporting seats that pushes you into place while cornering.
Performance wise it is massive although the impression of power and acceleration is more pronounced in my 993tt (probably more due to sound and presence of the car, than just performance numbers)
Drove the M5 with winter tyres on so for cornering abilities I can't say much. Would be fun to try it against the Porsche on a track....maybe this coming summer I'll have the opportunity....

The M5 was slightly slower (one-two car length) than a 996TT stage 4 GIAC off the line, all the way up to about 200kph. I was behind both cars in my 993TT (at 50% throttle
). I was impressed by the M5, that TT stage 4 beat many high HP cars that day.
