Yes, I bought this car, sight unseen. I haven't had a good night's sleep ever since. I'm a nervous wreck, plus I now must sell my beloved and perfect Waldo. See "Rufus" at www.autobahntech.com photo gallery. I won't get this car for at least a week. I could say I was scared poopless... but I have the runs.

Steve:

It's a car, and you are going to have a fabulous time with it. Now, you might really have the runs after you gun it or go a little hot into some turn! But you will have a great time. Don't look back.

BMWM5,

I had a 2000 M5 and then a 993tt wannabe (read RUF BTR-2). If you come from an M5, then the 993tt is one of very few cars that beats the M5 in the torque department. The 993tt faster and feels stronger, plain and simple.

I had Ground Control coil-overs on my M5 and still, the 993 beats it hands down in the handling feel and confidence departments. There is no amount of $$$$ one can spend on the M5 to make it drive like a real sport's car like a 993tt.

I can't comment on the Premier car or the price as I don't know anything on the subject, but my thought is that an M5+993tt is an awesome combination. Truely hard to beat.

Good luck and enjoy your fine rides in good health.

Please tell me you bought the one from Premier and not the one from Autotrader that has the rebuilt motor.

Trader220,

If you're talking to me... yes I bought the Ruf Turbo R conversion as seen in Autotrader. Are you going to make my runs worse? What do you know?

I am sorry maybe we're talking about different cars. Did you buy the one that was said to have 12k miles on it ?

Trader220,

The car has 99,000 miles. The Ruf conversion was done ~13k miles ago. Yes, that's the car I bought.

Looks like an interesting car, not much risk at that price either. Good Luck with it. You had a PPI done?

Trader220,

I spoke to the local Porsche dealer that just inspected that car, spoke to the previous owner, spoke to the shop that hosted the Ruf conversion, and had a local Rennlister stop by and look, listen, photo, and video the car. We have another Rennlister who also bought a car from this same reseller, Everything checks out. I think I won't be surprised. But clearly... my ********* outweigh my brain. <sigh> .

What I need at this point is some encouragement. What is done is done. Excuse me... I gotta run to the head.

I am with yaa! Just think of how much you'll enjoy the car when you get! Sometimes some situations call for a little risk.... keep us posted!

Steve,

Just think about my angst when I bought my RUF BTR sight unseen from GERMANY (of all places). However, the RUF comes so rarely I just had to take the risk. No pain, no gain. I'm now happy as a pig in mud, and hope you find similar outcome as well.

Best of luck. BTW, the RUF 3-piece wheels come in 19" size also.

Pong,

Thanks for the encouragement. Don't tempt me with upgrades... yet. I *will* want to get the Turbo R front and rear bumpers on the car some day, and have my eye on those nifty Ruf a-piller fairings, and the Ruf "dead" pedal to go with the other three Ruf pedals already installed. Of course seats and steering wheel are long-term possibilities as well. For now, I'm going to focus on not making myself ill.

Autobahn Tech is sending me all the invoices and a few left-over parts. It will be interesting to see exactly what went into the upgrade. I hope they did the engine mounts and the short shifter... I'll miss that if not done. The previous owner has the Ruf badges, some other parts and service records... he promised to send that to me as well, but not yet. He also knows where the cracked Ruf front splitter is, and promised to locate and have it shipped out. My fingers are very, very crossed that this all works out.

Steve, I don't see the reason for your angst. You've crossed all your T's and dotted all your I's. Once that beautiful RUF comes off the transport, all will be forgotten and you will have two fine vehicles!

Addison,

Gulp. Thanks. I hope you're right.

The other explanation, of course, is that my brain has atrophied to the size (and genral usefulness) of a raisin. Which may be a bit closer to the truth.
