Is this a lot of miles for a '97? I got a lead on another 97 that's been in storage since '99 w/5k on the clock. This other one is a bit more expensive but has 42k on the clock...

Opinions????

Thanks

I would consider 42K as near average or a bit low mileage for a TT. I'll let others talk about the pitfalls of extremely low mileage cars.A good pre purchase inspection will tell you what you need to know.Good Luck.

i got my tt with 30k miles , but as it had only 4k miles in the past 3 yrs before i bought it, it needed a little work as the valve covers were leaking and the turbos hoses had cracked - this is not cheap You should budget $3-5k for this type of stuff.
Its not obvious a 5k car is better and might not be worth the premium - do not assume a 5k car will need nothing - remember these cars are all about 8-10 years old and things just break from lack of use.
Id rather have a 20-40k car with regular and consistent usage - that way you know it was looked after constantly.

Looking back on my purchase of last year I wonder if I shuldn't have waited longer and went for a higher mileage car. 40k is no prob. if it checks out. I question my judgement b/c as a former weekend scca/karter I have been bitten by the track bug again after just one DE. Now I sit here with 23k mileage car and desire to upgrade it out the wazoo. Might I have been better off finding something in the $50s-or 60's with higher mileage that needed some work, yet had the money already available to do upgrades that has now been spent on the lower mileage car that some wouldn't dare take to a track. In short, don't discount anything b/c of mileage. You may find yourself on a similar path as mine......waiting for Sparcos and considering pulling my new HDs/ROWs after less than 500 miles and getting the better struts for the track, now how smart am I !!!

Go for the lowest mileage you can find... At resale, it will bring back more loot.
