Buying 993tt out of long storage...is that OK?
I've got a chance to buy a 97 that's been in storage since '99. It only has 5,000 miles on it. You think that it will be OK...will seals and stuff in the engine dry up. I know the brakes need to be gone through, etc.
Q: Would you buy this or a tt that has like 30,000 or 40,000 miles on it?
Thanks,

HMMM.
Good question.
There are cases for and against buying lowmile/low use cars. IMHO these cars need to be driven - but saying that if you're not going to drive it (garage/show queen) then it shouldnt be an issue.
Other things worth considering are the fact that most seals (including door rubbers) will be old and brittle. Has the car been turned at all? or has it sat? I would hate to think what 6 years of sitting would lead to corosion wise.........
No thanks!
Just my $0.012343453 worth....

Get the current owner to do a proper start up procedure from a deep sleep like that and then get the car checked out. I bought a 44,000km 944 Turbo S once that had sat for about eight years and I damn near replaced every seal on that car. I bought a 80,000km 964 Turbo and had none of those issues and recently bought a 22,000km 993 Turbo that had sat for about a year and have had no issues. It's kind of hit and miss, you'd think the 22k 993 Turbo would have bad seals too, it wasn't driven much.

So the seals leak, so what? You replace the seals and you have yourself a fabulous low miles car with new seals

It depends how stored. If stored properly, I have no problem with the low miles. Sounds like great find. Of course need to check out throughly. If I was only driving the car less than a few thousand miles a year, it is a positive, but if you are driving over few thousand miles a year, over a few years, it kind of nets out to buy a 30K mile turbo that is great shape. As no longer low mileage car. All depends on what you want - color/price/showcar, etc.
Last year, I bought a 993 C4S with less than 10K miles, it has been perfect because it was stored properly.
