Default Dunlop Super Sport Race tyre pressures?

Hi all,

I've just got a set of SSR's for my TT and would like some pressure settings (HOT) for both track use and road use.

Dunlop suggest 32/34 Hot for track.

Dunlop's recommendation for the track is pretty close. For the street, you might want to go up closer to stock pressures. I am running 32/36 cold on my GT3.

Those numbers seem pretty low for hot tires. I do 30/35 cold for my Dunlops, which translates to about 40/45 hot. They don't get very hot on the street, so I run the 36/44 stock pressure cold.

With R-compound tires, hot pressures should not be the same for track and street. Forty and forty-five is much too high for the track. You may be sliding around quite a bit.

You're suggesting 32/36 HOT on track?

Maybe 32/36 cold on the road?

No, I said that I agreed with Dunlop's hot recommendations for the track

Yes, as I said above: "For the street, you might want to go up closer to stock pressures. I am running 32/36 cold on my GT3."

Ah ha. All clear now. Thanks. Using standard SO2's I've always used the 36/44 cold on track and driven very hard with no problems. Now I'm using Pirelli's on the road I feel that the rears could be reduced somewhat.

Regarding the Dunlops, what should I be looking for regarding warning signs of under/over inflation? I'll have a pyrometer.

Viken -

Just out of curiousity, what pressure do you start out with at the track, cold, first run. I assume you then check it hot immediately after the first session. I'll add my follow up question here, you aren't concerned with rolling the tire off the rim at such a low pressure cold?

With a pyrometer, look for close to equal temperature at the outer, middle and the inner tread of each tire.

When I used to run street tires on the track, I always started with 32-35 cold. Most of the time, I needed to reduce pressures by 2-3 psi's after a couple of laps (shooting for 40 hot). Now, I am running the Dunlop SSR's all the time and I tend to drive to the track with 32-36 cold and start lowering about the same numbers hot as I do a few laps.
