Default Tire Question

I've searched old posts on tires and don't see the latest/greatest information that I need.

I'm getting new tires for my '97 993TT. The car is all stock, including rims, and I don't have any immediate plans to track it (too busy chasing kids on weekends). I noted that the prior owner had put 235/40/18 on the front and 295/30/18 on the rear. One of the old posts pointed out that it doesn't help to have those larger tires because the extra tread just rolls up the side. However, it seems that most TT owners are using larger tires.

What size tires do you recommend? Also, what brand do you recommend? My shop is recommending S02s.

Thanks for your help.

For street driving only, Bridgestone S03s wear well and are quiet and smooth riding. The stock sizes of 285/30 and 225/40 are fine.

Default Stock size is my vote. Good luck

Personally, in my car I always used stock sizes 225/40/18 and 285/30/18 PZeros (regular variety, not the Rosso) for a variety of reasons. SO2's "features" were not of much interest to me ("rim protection", looks and rain performance) as much as I like to maintain my alloys in good shape and am a sucker for good looks of a lot of other things other than tyre tread. There are a couple of types of SO2s and I refer to the plain SO2; there is another one with an A at the end and that may be slightly better but somehow I think your shop is referring to the plain SO2.
My car's suspension was quite modified but the car was mostly stock in other respects. Basically, I saw more reasons favouring stock sizes than not. If I was to drive a highly modified car with a lot of real power, more tyre contact coupled with appropriately sized rims would be something to consider but then I find a mostly stock car as a better way to spend more of my limited free time in the seat and less time thinking about it. Good luck with your choice.

S-02's and S-03's are crap. Go for the S-02A's. One of the few OEM tires that really perform.

Default Yoko A048

Anyone using the Yoko A048 as a daily driver? I use the A032's on my 74 Carrera and love it. Looking to replace the older S02's N1's on my 96 TT with the A048's for some fun in the sun since it does not go out in the rain. Probably only last 5K miles though.

But they are soooo heavy, gave me quite a shock when I weighed them. A 285 Pirelli P Zero Rosso N1 weighs 2.1kg less than the 285 S03 and with the weight in the worst possible place
