Engines 101?

Hi Eric,
It depends a bit on what you want to know.
For some general knowledge you can look at:
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/
If you want to know more about why stuff reacts as it does I suggest you study
a thermodynamical process called Otto cycle for regular gas engine and a sligthly different cycle (uses combustion during constant pressure) called the Diesel cycle for diesel engines.
If you're interested in more specific Porsche design, there are plenty of good books out there.
I hope this gets you started. And also you know that a question, no matter how stupid it is, is always welcome here! I learn new stuff almost about every time I logon.
