Default Kinesis K18's or Cargraphic 18" racing wheel?

So my rear tires are nearly shot and with winter basically here I'm not keen on 400hp in the rain without any traction. At the same time I am planning on some new wheels. I am planning on 18x9/11 with 235 up front and 295 in the rear.

What do you guys like better. Kinesis K18 standard lip and finish or a Cargraphic 18" Racing Wheel with silver center. I promise to post pics with the new wheels and tires, though it's going to be at least a month as I am off to New Zealand for 2 and half weeks in early November.

Btw, my car is a black on black 993tt! Your thoughts on which wheel looks best, please.

I like Kinesis K18's. Good luck on your decision. Also, you should consider sticking 315s on the rear. I currently have 295s on my 996TT hollowspokes, but should have gone with 315s. There's clearance and the 315s won't "pyramid" like the 295s(although if only slightly) do.

im not sure what the wheels you are looking at look like, but i like the more open wheels that have bolts around the perimeter. I believe JohnH has these on his black TT and Roook makes a set as well. I dont like wheels that were on the GT2 as they are too dense looking. just my opinion.

Thanks for the input.

Rob,
I'm not sure what the GT2 wheels look like. The Cargraphics definitely have the BBS motorsport racing wheel appearance with the cross spoke centers if that's what you are talking about. The Kinesis show the brakes a little better though. This is a tough decision. Please keep the input coming. I think the Kinesis are going to be a little less $$$, but I'm more concerned with getting the wheel I'll be happiest with.

Mike H,
Will 315 fit without a problem? What does "pyramid" mean? Also, won't the 315's cause more understeer?

Yes, but you can go with 235 or even 245 in the front.

I meant "pyramid" in that the actual tread area is a tad bit narrower than where the tires mate to the rim. Its much more noticeable if you compare a 295 tire and 315 tire shodded wheel together. I didnt notice it at first till Viperbob showed me his 315s on the same 996TT wheels.

As ADSC4S said, you can go up to 245s w/o spacers, but you will rub a little on the inside of the wheel well when going lock to lock. I barely go lock to lock so I have avoided experiencing that save for a couple of times, but I am more careful now.

Kinesis if you get the "Reverse" lip. Otherwise go with the Cargraphic rim.

EThec,

Here is my black TT with HRE 540R's. I believe the look would be very similar to the Cargraphic wheel.

I think the GT2 Rob is referring to is the BBS Magnesium look, which is very similar to the Cargraphic. The GT2 street version had the Speedline Magnesium centers (check out the user "TB993TT" here on Rennlist for a picture)

I think they are both beautiful wheels , I went with the Cargraphic with Gold centers but take a look at Poorboyw's car as well for some very nice Kinesis pics, they are amazing.

You can fit 315s without problems, I would suggest you get an 11.5" rim with the right offsets if this is what you want. If you want to reduce understeer with the 315s , make sure you go 245s front and obviously tire pressures and suspension setup can help too. Expect some tramlining though.

adsc4s,
those HRE's are very similar to the Cargraphics aside from the polished centers. Very nice.

Jean,
Both TB993TT and poorb0yw have GT2 flares! Very radical. Actually Arwinn has the k18's I am looking at. PIcture his car a little lower, bLack with the TT tail. Sweet!

Decisions.... decisions!

The wheels on TB993TT's wheels look pretty sweet too. I wonder how they'd look on a regular body w/o the GT2 flares. They look a lot like Kinesis Supercups. Are those speedline wheels?

Ethec

You can fit them (Kinesis and Cargraphic) with the proper offsets without the GT2 flares. You can actually fit 12" wheels with the right offsets and some fender rolling.

The Speedline wheels (TB's) will not fit without the flares as they do not come in TT offsets, I was trying to point you to the original street GT2 wheels

Ethec,

I don't have a good picture of my wheels as my car is not finished yet, here is one I found.

TB993TT wheels are the original GT2 Speedlines with magnesium centers.

Thanks for clarifying Jean.

Your cargraphics sure look nice too. Though i'd probably go with the silver centers.

If anyone else has some pics of cargraphics or k18's please post 'em.
