Default Newbie Needs help on Turbo Repair/Replacement???

Hi, I am new here and actually am asking this question for my father who isn't good with research and computers. He has a 1997 993TT with high mileage, about 70,000. He brought the car to a shop to get an oil leak repaired, and the shop said the seals on the turbos are pretty bad and will need replacing very soon. The shop told him a new turbo would cost roughly $3500 each side. So that's $7000. What other options can he go with. Not sure on brand and types of turbos out there, but it seems he doesn't want to spend $7000 on brand new stock turbos. Any advice as to what type of turbos to get for a street driven car like his with ocasional hard driving(every other weekend). I also hear a lot about Kevin who is a whiz at repairing turbos...can I get contact info on him and what can be done with the stock turbos...

P.S. His stock turbos were previously rebuilt by Evergreen Turbo in FL, but after a short period of about 2 months or even less, the turbos went bad again...

Any advice would be greatly appreaciated...Thanks

These turbos new from Porsche are only $2400 each... I have Kevin rebuild MANY turbos for my customers. I also have them on my car. Your dad would be very happy with the results....

I have 65000 miles on my 96TT, and am eagerly awaiting my stock turbos to wear out so I can upgrade to a pair of Kevin's higher performance rebuilt units. Kevin also can rebuild them back to stock specifications... but why? Perhaps Kevin will list his contact info in this thread.

I have a set of stock K16 turbos with 10,000 miles on them. I have the paper work to prove when they were removed. Not sure what they are worth but I am sure we could work something out if you need them.

You might also check the PCA and Rennlist classifieds. I got a near new set of turbos and a 97 ECU for under $2k on PCA. I don't know what Kevin charges to rebuild turbos but with the power improvement I'll bet it's better than Porsche new.
