Default CA Smog + Modded ECU= No Problem

I was nervous when I found out I needed to get another smog certificate for my car since I had read that some folks had encountered problems with a modified ecu.

Well, at least the gas station guy did not try to put my car on the 2 wheel dyno. He hooked me up to the OBDII and it all came up roses!

Now I am clear for the next two years. Muffler by-passes, here we come!!

You didn't mention this as I could have turned down your 5 bar fuel regulator, but I guess it was not necessary.... So are you doing Tracquest this weekend???

Hal,

The muffler bypasses do NOT affect your smog status... you can add them at any time, and have absolutely no worries. My Gemballa ECU also passed smog with very low numbers.

Bob,

I didn't think about the fuel pressure adjustment, but it turned out okay anyway. Unfortunately,
I am not going to be at Tracquest this weekend.

Steve, the technician did a visual inspection and he looked in the muffler area although he probably can't tell a turbo from a muffler back there. I can't wait to get some noise going now. Stock is way too quiet!

The visual inspection can only check the smog-required equipment... cats, O2 sensors, and the like. Mufflers are NOT part of that check. As an example, on my Cobra, I used to run "turn-downs" just aft of the muffler (no tail-pipes). The smog guy couldn't get a probe in there on the dyno. So I pulled the muffler off of one side, and he put the sniffer right into the cat pipe. It passed.
