Default Great purchase!

Dear Rennlisters,

Don't you love it when a purchase you make exceeds your high expectations? It's very rare in life, but every once in a while, a product will exceed our lofty expectations and actually be termed, "a great value".

A great purchase, in my opinion, is one that keeps getting better with time, never fails to win you over, again and again and always makes you wonder how they built something so right.

For me, I think my 993 Turbo purchase is one of those purchases that I consider to be a great value and a great purchase. Every time I drive it, it continues to impress and surprise me with its flexibility, ride quality, handling balance and that special feel that only 911's have. When I floor it in 2nd gear at 3000rpm and it rockets to the limiter in no-time flat, it feels as exciting as the first time. When I take a typical 90-degree city corner around at a pedestrain pace, I relish the low end torque as I pull cleanly away, only realizing after that I was actually in 3rd and not even 2nd!

There are so few purchases I've made in my life that I feel I got more value from the product than the money I put in. The 993 Turbo is definitely one of those and the relationship is still young. We should be thankful we have the opportunity to enjoy these wonders of mechanical engineering. I know I am.

Do you feel the same way about your 993 Turbos?

Other purchases that made the grade for me:

NAD T750 receiver. Like a tank, takes amazing abuse and sounds great for the humble price.

Energy C2 speakers. I've had them for nine years and they still sound great and handle high loads without breaking a sweat. Amazingly, if I want to sell them on ebay, the used prices are greater than the price I paid new. Others must feel the same way I do!

Toshiba TW40X81 TV. Another reasonably priced purchase that continues to wow me everytime I watch a DVD on it. It's already 5 years old and still delivers a stunning picture and timeless good looks.

1989 944 Turbo S. The first car I ever fell in love with. I had it for 5.5yrs and regret selling it. The balance between price, comfort, handling and performance was spot on.

Canon S400. This one is a new purchase, but it has the signs of being a great purchase. It does everything I want in a simple, elegant package, without any extras just for frills sake.

1990 Infiniti Q45-Mercedes luxury, BMW performance, Honda reliability, Nissan price. Cannot find a car to adequately replace it 14 years later.

H&K P7M13-The 993tt of 9mm pistols.

SafeTJack floor jack-hoists the car and leaves the jackstand at the lift point

Griot's Garage oil siphon and brake fluid siphon-no more deluge from the sump reservior and one man brake bleeding.
